Actually a 530e plug-in hybrid... no HUD.
Love an Audi brother. Like I mentioned, windshields can get expensive... way more than the quote I posted.
Would you trust Satellite to swap the windshield in your BMW?
Like I mentioned, I sold it, didn't replace the shield. I agree with 100% on trust.
When search Google for Audi discussion fora there are all kinds of stories of the electronics not working correctly and even water leaks into the interior of the vehicle afterward when using Safelite.
I never dug that deep, but I don't blame you for being hesitant.
Hard to know if that is just the 1% of bad results complaining or a significant risk of using that company.
Do they complain like the QSC thread? lol
The OEM windshield all by itself, just the part, is more expensive than Safelite's quote.
I know bro, the dealer's prices are painful. I wouldn't full-on trust them either, unless they have decent warranty (I would say the same about Safelite). Usually, the dealer WILL stand by their work though.
You tell safelite you got HUD and that gets you OEM windshield (when paid by insurance). They don't check.
Yeah, HUD increases the costs by a lot. But, it's good to know they'll replace with OEM through insurance. Depends on insurance too... if they cover it.
My new car (Merc EQS SUV - yes, it's nice), I purchased the dealer's windshield warranty (the crap they sell you in the finance office). I can get my entire windshield replaced up to an aggregate $4500, as many occurrences that will eat that up... chips—unlimited—repaired for free. It's the only extended warranty I bought for this, because I deal with the windhsield crap frequently. It was like $495 add-on. Havn't had a problem though... yet.
I didn't realize my views on the alleged roid dealer in this thread was going to snowball into windshields, their costs, and whether it makes sense to replace them. I was just painting a picture—what I saw—as that guy making irresponsible choices. We all have responsibilities, but we also take risks. I think if it were me, I take my responsibility serious enough to where I wouldn't add more factors to increase my risk. Cracked windshield... ok. Suspended license + cracked windshield... not ok. All of the above + gear in the car... a little out of hand.
