Rest days

I have noticed now that I'm older at the age of 46. I need more rest days even with gear. When I train I like and believe in high intensity weight training as heavy as you can go with being able to rep 10 to 8 reps and if I'm feeling really good I'll do 12 reps. Then after weight training I do cardio for 30 to 40 minutes steady state. Now I need 3 rest days to recover

im in my early 50's and i find that an every other day routine with a 12-15 rep range with moderate weight and a slightly higher volume as i have to work around current injuries, but i feel good and making progress, so it seems to be working, , i have been really enjoying the "pumps" they get damn near debilitating, lol ;)

Have you tried splitting your cardio/weight training? I'm a believer that they don't need to be stacked. If time is of the essence, cardio is always better after, as you mentioned.

I’d say most people in terms of pure muscle growth would benefit from more days off.
The main thing is you’re listening to your body
Staying healthy is the top priority
All the best.

I agree it's hard to make the realization that once you start pushing 50 it's time modify things

I always monitor my diet to make sure i am getting all the nutrients i need for recovery. I trained much the same till i was in my early 50's. I am in my 60's now. If i see a trend upward for a few days in resting heart rate or blood pressure i find adding in more rest to be beneficial. Splitting up cardio and lifting days may be beneficial as well. No sense digging the recovery hole deeper then is needed.

i agree with @buck , i currently workout with weights on m-w-f-s and on off days i do my cardio, it seems to be effective and im not getting bored or dreading any workout, everything seems to be recovered by next session , currently doing 45 minutes liss on cardio days, nothing to extreme just stationary bike,,

Every day resistance exercise. If its a not as intense or volume day, ill do that.Usually one intense set while others failing close to failure. There have been times where Id gettogether with a soul mate and skip a few days. Cardio is seperated from resistance exercise.

Yea Dorian said in a interview he always separated his cardio away from weights

I schedule zero rest days from resistance training.

If I need one, I take it, but it's never passive rest. Always getting in my steps & cardio.

3 days a week. Us older guys gotta work to stay lean and healthy. 3 days weights leaves days for hiit, running, hiking. 10k steps is mandatory for us

Hey man. Try cutting back the volume a bit — you don’t need to go full beast mode every session. Also, instead of stacking cardio right after lifting, maybe split it up and do it on a separate day. That way you’re not frying your CNS and you give your body a better shot at bouncing back quicker. Train smart, not just hard. Hope that helps!
