The real chimpanzee diet – Fat, Glucose, Protein and a little Fructose | Paleo Style

In summary, the chimp diet is 50-55% fats, 24-29% glucose and 21% protein.

Luckily for the chimps their diet has no resemblance whatsoever to the SAD diet and if analyzed properly may indeed show the way to “the healthiest human diet” – high in fats and moderate in protein, and carbs with some fruits included for old time’s sack.

My opinion - FWIW - is that paleo advocates that talk about a diet of 80-85% fat are wrong. The only way to get the fat % that high is to add copious amounts of coconut oil and butter to the diet - for no other reason than to get the fat % way too high.

your words vic.? i just read that 3 times. it all seems reasonable.
80-85% fat. that kind of percentage is impossible eating whole foods. even the fattiest meats. unless your just eating the fat to avoid the protein. and/or adding pure fat.
ketogenic diets work, but theyre gross. 130g of carbs isnt going to kill you. especially from real food. vegetables and friuts.
and all diets can be cycled and used for different goals.

Those words are indeed mine - just my opinion. Jimmy Moore in his latest n=1 experiment is eating a diet of around 85% fat, 10% protein and 5% carb and he's measuring his blood ketone levels daily.

I still say that the only way to get the fat % that high and the protein that low is to fry 4 eggs in 6 tablespoons of coconut oil, fry 1/2 lb of ground beef in 6 tablespoons of coconut oil, put 6 tablespoons of oil oil on your salad and have coffee with lots of whole cream. IMHO - that's not healthy over the long term, it's also not a very appetizing way to eat.

not appetizing at all. gross. im going to go a step further and say theres nothing paleo about it. or primal or whatever. it is what it is. a ketogenic diet.
im not really sure how coconut oil, butter or ground beef are paleo. even chicken eggs everyday, but whatever. id guess back in the day they ate the whole coconut, without worrying about carbs. whole cuts of meat. assuming domestication of cattle instead of a paleolithic hunter-gather, and a meat grinder, whos going to grind beef anyway and why. so you can fry it and mix in the oil or butter for more fat thats why.
just a quick look at livinlavidalowcarb it says jimmy lost 180 lbs in 2004. maybe more now. that says a lot about who might benefit from such drastic measures. at 2000 cal. a day 10% protein equals a whopping 50g. id guess jimmy doesnt do resistance exercise or do much regular exercise. just a guess. a missing part of most peoples everyday well-being. maybe ill page through some of the site. maybe not. there are some links.
thanks for another informative post and your opinion.

He is now "down" to 274.8 lbs from a high of 306 and is currently eating a diet with an appx 85/12/3 ratio of fat/protein/carbohydrates.

Personally I do not think this is healthy in the long run but that's just me.

If you assume 2500 calories per day @ his current weight of 274.8 lbs (124.91 kgs) he would be consuming 18.75 grams of carbs (75 calories), 75 grams of protein (300 calories) or .06 grams per kilo of bw and 236.11 grams of fat (2125 calories)

At 2000 calories per day it's 15 grams of carbs (60 calories), 60 grams of protein (240 calories) or .48 grams per kilo of bw and 188.89 grams of fat (1700 calories)

He also says - "Here are a few more examples of the foods I’m consuming on my experiment and the percentage of fat calories:

Coconut oil: 100% of calories from fat
Butter: 99% of calories from fat
Cream cheese: 88% of calories from fat
Sour cream: 87% of calories from fat
Heavy cream: 96% of calories from fat
Cheddar cheese: 75% of calories from fat

Since when is cream cheese, sour cream, heavy cream and cheddar cheese part of a healthy, paleo type diet??

Interesting stuff, CVic. I started a "paleo" diet similar to the "real chimp diet" back in Sept 2011. Prob lost bout 10 pounds, joints felt great, energy was excellent. Two months ago, went towards a keto based "anabolic diet". Prob never entered ketosis, keep the protein kinda high, but gained app 10 pounds in two weeks. Incredible, muscles just filled right out. But about month and a half in MAJOR Gerd, and joint pain. It was the dairy, cheese, sour cream, ricotta, full fat greek yogurt, etc. Back to the chimp diet and bout 1 week later, no gerd, & joints are already feeling better. Its the real chimp diet for me....

I would not define what JM is doing as Paleo. It's a ketogenic diet and that isnt for everyone.

Btw, he's had an EBT scan and it came up zero. No calcium deposits at all. Last I heard his total cholesterol was headed for 400.

Dairy isnt for everyone but it's also possible the high protein intake is what gave you GERD.
