1001 Pound Deadlift - Brian Shaw

A very big man lifting very big weights. What's not to like?
My prediction Shaw wins WSM for the 4x this year

Arnold Classic is next week. I assume he's competing as usual. 6' 8" @ 440 pounds. I can't even imagine what that looks like in person.

That's crazy,he that look way to easy. Now I'm trying to figure out what increments those plates are....50lb plates, and a hundred pound bar?

Extremely impressive but I don't think it should be put up with Eddie hall who did his world record on a stiff regulation bar. It's a feat of strength not many have ever done but the length and flex of that bar do help him and I think there would be a dozen more guys in the 1000 pound deadlift club with a bar like that. This is me being mad jelly I could never attain that lol

Hmmm, now that's got me thinkin. Since the record was initially set on a straight bar, I for one think every attempt at matching or breaking the record should he done on a straight bar as well. Jus my .02

I gotta admit I don't know what to think about that bending bar... Don't want to take anything away from him cause I'm a fan. The plates look stacked on the ends of the bar to increase the bend more as well. But this is also no competition and I don't know for sure when the video was shot. Might be training for the Arnold next week.

It is in his training for the Arnold yes. He's also using a long bar so none regulation length with more whip then should be. Once again nothing against him I'm a huge brain shaw fan and even buy his products he endorses, have followed him for 4 years and love his attitude in general and personality. The thing that I don't like is claiming a 1000+ deadlift on social media and such when in reality it's almost like a 4inch block pull if it was a stiff bar which can make the difference for me from doing 525 deadlift or 585. The Mountain last year pulled 950 in training on a stiff bar like it was nothing but does not claim a 1000+ dead even though with the same set up here I believe he could no problem

Edit: I'd like to state that I am anal attentive when it comes to training and numbers, my bumper plates are 1/2" larger then regulation powerlifting plates so I stand on a 1/2" piece of plywood when I pull so I don't feel like I've cheated at all. Does it make a huge difference 1/2" no but it could be the difference of another 10lb and that's big when your an advanced lifter

6'8"....440lbs.....
I knew a guy who was 6'8" 180lbs... can't eBen imagine another 300 lbs on him.

I was going to ask about the bar. I know nothing about powerlifting... I just learned I've been powercleaning on the wrong bar for years.
Why is it so far out there with the weights on the end, what is the advantage to this?

Regardless, he still lifted 1,001lbs from the ground to standing pretty damn fast.

Advantage is he got essientially 4" of flex in the bar before the weight left the ground putting his body in a more advantageous position to pull more weight. Same reason deadlift is easier off of blocks and you can rack pull more then you can deadlift less travel = less force and energy required. But yes it still is crazy weight to stand tall with even if it was a block pull or rack pull or with a none regulation set up, there still is only 10-15 other people on the planet that could do that no deadlift suit

Awesome to watch...period. I do think there needs to be at least a little consideration of lift:bw ratio. 1000lb deadlift is bananas, but @440lbs that's 2.27xBW. So @220lbs that would equate to 500.....

(Just thought I'd hop on the hater train :D)

So what I'm getting outa this is if someone were to be I don't know say 186lb for shits and giggles and deadlifts something hypothetical like 525lb on a regulation bar they'd be stronger then brain shaw.... ;) Hypothetically of course
