Amlodipine Edema

I increased Telmisartan to 40mg in December. My labs two weeks later had my potassium out of range. I dropped back down to 20. January slightly out of range and this month finally in range. I like Telmisartan but 20 is the limit.

Funny thing is there's very little additional BP reduction going from 20 to 40 to 80. Mostly an increase in sides. It's like that for many BP meds. That's why the shift to combos of smaller doses of 2 (or 3 or 4) gives the best results, with the fewest sides.

Instead of increasing the Telm or calcium channel blocker dose if more BP reduction is needed, the guidelines suggest adding a low dose diuretic (like chlorathiadone), which has the added benefit of reducing edema risk even further.

It’s too bad most of the combos/trios start Telmisartan off at 40mg.

Why do you prefer one over the other? I have HCTZ but I didn’t really like how I felt using it even at low doses as a diuretic.
I found while on the hctz and amlodipine, it didn’t help the leg edema as much as the chlorthalidone. Ultimately I got off the amlodipine and have cut down the chlor to half as well. I also didn’t like how hctz made me feel.

You are on a cruise?

I feel like you shouldn't keep adding drugs. maybe reduce back to Test and start adding little by little to see what the culprit is brother.
Yep. Cruise. Nothing has changed except doubling up to 10mg on Amlodipine two nights ago. And I had just added 5mg Amlodipine 8 days ago before doubling the dose. Last night was better than two nights ago but the edema in the right hand returned intermittently throughout the night. It has a long half life (30-50 hours) and I’m at 30 hours right now.

I would advise to get get a panel

CBC,
CMP
Ferritin
CRP
Lipids
Total test+E2
stop adding drugs right now.

You can google all these remedies/treatments. throwing different stuff at your body but we need a full picture before you start adding things.

Especially if you are on a cruise of test and mast. You shouldn't be having these symptoms and some of the other things going on may need an actual Prescriber assistance.

You're on the right track with your troubleshooting. Once the edema resolves re-add one of the things you removed, the HGH would make the most sense I think, and if edema doesn't return, there's your answer. The compound that's most common side effect is edema caused edema. (or at least enabled it when combined with HGH).

Lipids, total-t, all good to know but nothing to do with edema.

Total T can still help paint a picture if BP is possibly correlated with erythrocytosis if it does exist

Might as well make your blood visit worth it., get lipids for an extra 10 dollars

I get labs every 4-6 weeks. Here are last Wednesday’s. Total T and E2 haven’t returned yet. Nothing concerning. My levels impacted by my groin tear and doxycycline use have improved

You'll want to remove that, too much personal info
