Your right guys. I don't mean to be like that. To each their own. To me kids play video games and I don't mean to be condescending. My way is not better than yours. My apologies guys. I do want to be positive member of the forum and not negative.
Good on you man! I think we all definitely appreciate the apology, no worries over here.

When I was a kid video games were my main hobby, really. Now that is WAY different. I know that video games are a time waster. However, I work full time, kick ass at my job, am extremely successful/pull in a lot of money, at home I cook, I clean, I take THE BEST care of my dog that is humanly possible. I don't and won't ever have human children (I made sure of that with a vasectomy).

I say really busy and am always trying to do something to improve my life, but we all need leisure. I like to read, I love going to walks/hikes and doing photography, I also like to play a video game now and then. If I get a good game I will play a few hours per week for a few months until I beat it.

So if I want to wind down and relax by playing a single player game, wasting a little bit of time just zoning out and forgetting about the stress of work and stuff, that seems like a totally reasonable thing to do.

Online FPS games just stress me the fuck out. Actually, FPS games like Call of Duty and Battlefield and Fortnite or whatever else people play nowadays are proven to cause a stress response, raising both cortisol and adrenaline levels, along with other things. I am very sensitive to this nowadays: my pits will get sweaty within minutes of starting to play that type of game, my pulse will increase, I feel more anxious and get angry, irritable, and frustrated. This is even worse now since I suck at those FPS games compared to the kids that play all day every day, so I just die a lot. Even when I do well though I still get stressed out and worked up.

IMO, as long as people aren't sitting around talking shit in multiplayer lobbies and spreading negativity, video games are a better outlet than what average people do, which seems to be to go on youtube or netflix binge watch the stupidest videos/TV shows ever made, or go on facebook or instagram and just scroll through all the garbage people post for extended periods of time. IMO playing a video game is actually more mature than scrolling through instagram or constantly checking how many likes someone got on their last post/tweet/whatever.

So yeah, a lot of games are childish, but sometimes it's nice to wind down and do something a little childish!

Damn, that last paragraph brought back memories.

I remember when the original Nintendo came out. Before that was the Atari, but the Nintendo was crazy. Sega, Super Nintendo, Turbo Graphics 16, and it just kept going. To watch almost the entire lifespan of gaming evolve has been fascinating. I owned every console from the original Nintendo up to the PS2 (that also includes accessories like Nintendo’s glove, running pad, and rocket launcher things). After that, adulthood took over.

I wish I had kept Nintendo’s Virtual Boy. It was Nintendo biggest failure, but probably worth some money.

I would recommend Ghost of Tsushima if you haven’t played it. Its by far the best Samurai game i had the pleasure of playing, story, graphics & combat.

Any fans of the old games and consoles need to check out making a Retro Pi. Basically get one of those $40 raspberry Pi computers, a controller, and a big SD card and load up basically every game from the 1990s and a few from the early 2000s.

It’s a fun project and was cool for me to play a bunch of the games I never had from when I was a kid.

I've been meaning to pick one up forever. I've a got a Wii with the NES and SNES emulators and most of the games with the Wii Classic Controllers.

A buddy of mine has one set up in an arcade machine. $1800 for the whole set up delivered to his house. It’s pretty sweet, and the kids love it. Has the arcade sticks with 6 button set up per side.

The Wii is a fun console and there's a lot of hacks out there for them to play great games. My brother still has the original Wii and plays it occasionally as it still works.

That sounds badass! I helped a family member make just the basic Raspberry pi, but then he found a USB 2 player arcade joystick at the thrift shop for like $80 or something. We had to update the controller but got it going in the end! Not as cool as an actual cabinet though.

The OS for the Pi is called emulation station I think, and is free but there are no games included. I went to a site called Arcade Punks where they review bundles people make that have the OS, mods, and all the ROMs. They had links so I found one that could fit on my 32gb sd card. I remember the 32gb version I wanted didn't fit, but 16gb ended up working and has a TON of games. So many I don't even know what I am missing. Guess I should go fire it up this weekend...

Horizon Zero Dawn
That's an amazing game. I got it with my ps4 and first it was really boring. After a few months I started playing it again and it turned out really good.

I used to love gta san Andreas. Back on q ps2. I would play that shit for hours.
Ps 2 was really awesome. But graphics compared... Duuuude worlds... But still an awesome game.
Vice city is pretty cool too

Sorry if I'm late to the party. Does anyone love an old school MMO? I was huge fan of Runescape back in the day! Haven't played it for yonks!
Damnnn... Long time ago. Played it next to world of warcraft, was pretty funny but the graphics were so damn low.
Last year I visited my cousin and he never stopped playing and he was playing runescape and I was like "what? That's runescape?" it's pretty good now. Graphics, game play, new monsters,...

I still play with my Nintendo64 lol. But it's really hard with a nee TV and an old console. Headache as fuck

I agree with you there. When I first played HZD I was kinda like...hmmm was this a waste of money? I decided to stick with it though and the gameplay was just so smooth, the graphics so good (especially with a custom reshade), and the story was pretty solid. I had ZERO crash problems on PC, but I have new hardware from Feb 2020.

Haha yeah. I have it on ps4 and ye like 7 months after I said "damn I don't like that game" I was "This game is so good and I love the story". It's really lovely designed

Like a lot of folks here, life takes up much of my time but I like playing when I'm able. Takes me forever to get through even the shorter games but I find it to be a satisfying hobby when I'm able.

I never understood the kind of people that shit talk gamers yet they themselves may spend crazy amounts of hours glued to tv or movies, being mindlessly entertained (which I'm not bashing totally, I do occasionally). I mean, at least games make you use parts of your brain some usually may not, hand/eye coordination, platforming skills, puzzle solving, etc.

I currently have 180ish hours in on Xenoblade Chronicles. And I've been playing it for 11 months when I get a little time or can't sleep.

Not a fan of online multiplayers. Because people suck. The only one I got into was Friday the 13th but got burned out after a while.

Some of my faves through the years:
The Uncharted series
Fallout 3, NV, 4
Many of the Final Fantasy games
Anything Metroid
Anything Castlevania
So yeah lol, and 'Metroidvania's'
Anything Legend of Zelda
GTA 3-5

A bunch really but yeah, I like getting into a good game when time allows.

I always meant to play the Xenoblade games. Played Xenogears on PS1 back in the day and really liked it. Never beat it because the last disc was scratched and would freeze on the same cutscene every time.

Oooof, that sucks. I never tried Xenogears but always heard good things.

I picked up Chronicles for my 3ds on sale because I was in the mood for an RPG but not a turn-based thing and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the combat is, and the story, characters are extremely engaging and well done.

I recommend XC to anyone interested in the genre. I'll definitely be playing the other games in the series eventually.

Spent hoursssssssss on that thing. Had a character that was highly ranked for a few years. 99 everything. Those were the days. Some of those RuneScape forums were awesome. Funny enough, it’s because of my experience on those forums that I looked for bodybuilding/weightlifting/AAS education type forums and found meso back as a young teen.
