Any shooters in here

So I’m shooting a 1k yard comp Saturday. It will be my first comp so feeling kind of so so. It’s out of my comfort zone for sure.

I mean I’m good at grouping at 1k with averaging around 5-6 inch groups at 1k yards. But this comp is precision shooting and have to hit consistently a 10in circle at 1,000 yards. So have to put my all in the wind and hopefully I read it correctly.

Shooting 3 sets of 20 rounds. Got my rounds loaded and ready using 175 g Berger with 43.5 g varget and new Lapua brass.

Shooting the FC tac class so using my Tika 308- this class is designed for 308 so everyone will be using a 308. Got my team ready spotter and put
Guy. So hopefully I can kill this shit.

I have some friends that do this type of shooting. Your mind is about to be blown at all the gadgets and tricks some of these guys use. They usually shoot the Creedmore. In my opinion your breathing and trigger pull are the most important things. You can dope the wind right but if you don’t have your breathing right and a consistent pull you got squat. Relax though big guy. Have some fun. You mill most definitely meet some guys that can show you the ropes at these tournaments. I hear the gear swapping gets pretty good too. Lol. Best of luck big brother.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever used beta blockers before practicing? I always assumed they would be a big PED, in combination with caffeine for focus, in this type of competition to remain steady.

(Come on, we can't have any general discussion threads on this board without throwing some PED talk into the mix)

I’m taking my 6.5 as well but depending on the turn out I’m just going to shoot the tac class. The 6.5 would put me in the open class against 338 and 300 win mags so I just wanted to get my feet wet and go up against the 308’s.

And thanks brother

I never have thought of using any.

Not sure on my spelling:(

I love to shoot though I've never done anything this long of range. One of my buddies picked up a Ruger Precion Rifle 6.5 Creed more that is badass. He paid about 3x for his scope than what he paid for the rifle. I used to have a pretty capable varmint AR. 24" fluted heavy barrel with the O.G Magpul pts stock on it. I used an swfa super sniper fixed 10x scope on it. It was pretty damn accurate but it wasn't hitting shit at 1000 yards...lol. I used to have a Tikka t3 in 22-250 as well but never had a range long enough to really push the limits. I have a few stripped lowers laying around that I should finish building one of these days and mostly just play with a a couple of Arsenal AKs I picked up a while back. Another one of my buddies tricked out a Remington 700 in .308. He put one of those Shepard scopes on it that is supposed to be like cheating. Lmao. Good luck, stay safe and have fun, bud.

It is very relaxing to shoot the distance I want to shoot a mile one day but until I get better at reading the wind downrange I will stay at 1k.

I have a few Tavors (bullpup) my 308 I put a Steiner T5xi on top of it 3-15x and took that thing to 1k and beat group I got with it was 2.2 moa average 5 shot grouping was 2.75moa. Now that’s around 27 inches but it impressed me for being a 16” barrel bullpup assault style weapon.

The rule I think on the scope is spend double on the scope as you did for the rifle. But I haven’t been working and i stuck my vortex on the tikka 308. I just know I better get back to work this is putting me in the poor house quick

After the first three rounds I tend to throw shots. 5 shot groups at 100yds closest in both are the first three rounds. Nothing exceptional.

In regards to these tournaments. I was wondering what position you will shoot from? Seems like you will have a clear advantage either way due to your size. Rock solid if you will. Lol.

I have some friends that Shot longe range at an international level.

They told me caffeine is a big no.
Basically when you're talking micro movements on your shooting sock, like pinky finger squeeze of 1 extra PSI to get on target... the last thing you want is any stims

Everyone shoots prone in this class. Just left the range and shot 5 groups best group was a .59 moa but all groups were under .8moa wind was about 5-8 mph shifting from behind me to right.

Usually your 10 ring will be 20 inches (2moa) but in this class it’s 10 inches and x ring is 5 inches so my goal is to stay under 1moa for the 20 rd group.

My pit guy (my pops) will have a radio and he will tell me where they are hitting.

I will have 30 min to shoot 20 rds after each shot the target has to come down and get marked. This will help me in adjusting my point of aim during the 20 round string.

Just hope the wind plays in the shooters favor.

I did take a scoop of preworkout this morning. YOLO!!

And I’m comming off a Kratom binge from the last week so I was kinda shaky. But I shot well enough today to leave happy.

Although 600 is a perfect score and ties are decided by who had more X’s they just told me 560’s will be average..... I got to be on my a game but I will let y’all know how good I do or if I do terrible I will let y’all know how good I did[emoji6]

I’m more of a “door to door” guy. I like clearing houses, love to train with the pistol, 870 and the M4. But I’ve heard that the placement of your feet and utilizing your hips in the prone position is a deal breaker.

Another thing I’ve learned that works from archery to rifle shooting. Don’t aim at that big black dot. Aim at something inside that dot. It works wonders for me. Damn you now I’m grabbing my shit and headed to the range to send a few. I haven’t done cardio today. Going to set up some cones and do a four corners drill. Hustle to a corner, drop and do 10 push ups or sit ups, take a shot and proceed to the next cone. Rinse and repeat. Lots of fun.

That sounds fun. Great cardio and good training under stress. I usually use my reticle (the mill lines) to outline the ring of the target it helps me have the same aim placement then just trying to put the small dot in the large X. When my scope is down to 15 this works perfect

Yea I will mix it up and shoot from a knee. From the sit up position. Prone. It’s good training but it will humble you at first. Accuracy suffers with that heart rate and blood pressure going mad.

1k is tricky on wind. How many wind calls and at what distances? Are you looking 100-200 past the target for that last call?
