Are people just that fucking blind or do they really think they're big?

I've seen someone bench press like 225lbs while on a large bosu ball. That was a serious accident waiting to happen should that ball pop from the weight.
The thought of the bar crushing the guys chest makes me cringe.

And yet the still image on that video is someone doing a light squat while balancing on the same kind of ball

I get really pissed watching people teaching others how to do dead’s incorrectly. They are literally destroying their lower backs and don’t even know.
I find I get annoyed when I see someone who calls themselves a personal trainer, yet they look like shit, and are charging people while teaching them to half rep or don't even attempt to correct form at all

Yes! Fat slobs telling another fat slob how to get in shape... makes perfect sense

It's so hard not to intervene sometimes. You don't wanna be "that guy" and you also don't wanna see someone get seriously hurt either.
This is my problem. No one likes "that guy" that randomly goes up and corrects people especially when no one asked

It's more irritating to me because I know they're getting ripped off even if they do see some progress that they would've seen without the help of whatever the person calls themselves. If it's their friend or family member who didn't know any better it's totally different but to be charged for that shit? Lol

It's amusing how many people think they appear to be "fit/in shape" because they wear your typical workout clothes and new sneakers

Yeah, that's a tough ones for sure.

My biggest issue these days in the gym is people just hanging out on the machines...

Man, I'm there to fucking lift.
I'm a very nice guy and I certainly dint try to intimidate everyone, but I'm a busy dude... I'm there to crush sets and leave.

I'm usually huffing hard and sweating like a monster, these skinny dudes who take up space and dont break a sweat just kill me...

A few people have been receptive to my advice... some guys with SHIT and potentially damaging form have been quite rude to me.

Nowadays... Hood up, headphones blaring... mind my own business.

There is nothing I despise more in the gym than those assholes who sit on a machine, either watching a video or talking/texting. Well, besides those assholes who don’t believe in deodorant.

I've seen those same guys often just texting or talking on their phones literally doing nothing. I don't bother wasting my time asking how long they'll be because I know 20 min later when I walk by they'll still be there

Guess I've got answer with... Why be so butt hurt about someone smaller than you offering advice?
Did you try the advice? Maybe it will help you make more gains.
Just because you're "huge" doesn't mean you've got it all figured out
All the pros have coaches, and these coaches are all way the fuck smaller than the guys they're coaching, yet the guys are growing by taking the advice of the "smaller" coach.... So..... o_O

I don't know man, my gym sponsor a lot of athletes at international level (strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, mma) and many of them are a lot smaller than me. One dude is 30kg smaller but has won national Olympic weightlifting like 5 times in his weight class - when he talks to me, I shut up and listen. Another is a multiple time Mr. O finalist, he may be 14kg lighter but I'm still shutting up. Another came in as #1 regional international strongman at 85kg.
These are not pencil necked beginners taking selfies between the sets though.
Just because you weigh more doesn't mean you know everything better than everybody else.

I actually had a guy try to outlift me over the weekend. Only the second time in my life I've had it happen. Girlfriend and I spent Valentine's Day out of town and I got a day pass at a gym where we went. Some dude got on the bench next to me and got up to the weight I was using and basically hip thrusted with his spotter doing upright rows for exactly one more rep than I was doing on my sets. Almost no warmup either, he did 135lbs first, straight to 315lbs next, and then to 335lbs and he barely got 315lbs up once on his own. I had a good laugh.
something similar happened to me like a week or two ago. I'm back in my old gym, from like four years ago. For a quick history lesson, we joined this gym 18 years ago, my wife still has her original membership active. I've branched off to different gyms as my workout life has changed.

Well, I'm back in this gym and I have a lot of people that I know still, and some new guys that I don't. One guy that I don't know walks around with a hoodie on, good up all the time. He's got a little power but nothing major. He tries, so credit when credit is due. I got on an incline and started pressing. He was doing the same thing. I think he was feeling challenged by me or something because he kept looking at me and was trying to push more and more, almost like his entire workout was now focused solely on spending all his energy on these inclines. All I did was simply warm up with the 50s, then the 70s, and this is where I noticed his attention turning to me. I did maybe 12/15 reps, nothing crazy. The DB only go to 100 so maxing them out comes quickly. I was hitting full sets at 100 and he wasn't able to keep up, he was visibly upset by this. No words, no introduction, nothing. Just an unfriendly stare as I worked out. Fuck em I say. The dude is going to cry when I start bringing in loadable dumbbell handles, cuz we all know 100# db is just a warm up weight

It's always some kind of bench pressing with these guys. The one other time that happened to me it was flat bench too. I think it was like you said, guy was probably normally the big bencher in the neighborhood and felt threatened. Plus I'm not a huge guy either.

I don't know how they don't know what they're capable of. But then again I spend a lot of time analyzing my own bar speed on video and other people at my gym have me look at theirs occasionally as well trying to guess their max.

why is it always the pressing? Lol.

I always equated weight lifting to running. You're able to compete against other folks, but you are essentially your only real competition. You're battling your own record, nobody else's.

You're a beast with power, I'm bigger than you though. On the surface one might think I should be stronger but we all know shit doesn't always work that way. I never get threatened or jealous of folks with more power, it's useless for me to be like that. If anything, I want to root them on to get bigger and stronger.

THIS.

-being bigger doesn’t mean smarter or you know more, but the guys who research and live this life 110% are the ones who have knowledge to spread.

Idk man. Its hit and miss some big guys are walking brain enema's. Some are just drug addicts. Some have talent out the asshole and there isnt much thought needed just eat, lift, rest and repeat and that formula always works for them. No boundaries, no road blocks just progress. Some are strong naturally and you cant really teach that. Just the way it is. They get a vague idea about form and they just get world class strong.

Then theres the guys who dont have the best genetic profile and they pour themselves in to research and attend seminars and hire private coaches and have notebooks piled up in a box of every single wo in the past 20 yrs they done. Have scoured the rubix cube of their genetic code to understand what exactly they respond best to. And face road block after road block and eventually succeed. Those are the guys worth listening to. Because they dont have all the genetic gifts to rely on and have to have everything exact to make any progress at all. I look in the mirror at one everyday

If everyone was like this in and out of the gym instead of being a bunch of self centered arrogant assholes it would be a much better place

Thankfully there are a decent percentage of people who do care enough to be positive, encourage and even teach newcomers. This is good for the sport and for everyone else because having support and decent people attract others into this world. The more people that are involved the more the industry thrives.

One of the biggest things I liked about this board is even though there are a lot of straight shooters and sometimes drama there is a solid amount of information and education to anyone who'se willing to learn
