AUSTIN (KXAN) — Federal and state authorities arrested 22 people in the Austin area on Thursday believed to be connected to a steroid distribution ring. Included in the arrests were ringleaders Timothy John Bruner, 54, of Leander, and 23-year-old Ryan Robert Rowland of Round Rock, a statement from the Department of Justice said.

Federal charges were handed down for six of the people arrested, including Bruner and Rowland. Others facing federal charges are: Ronald Marion Butsch, 42, Austin; Dan Lee, 47, Austin; Timothy John Moore, 49, Austin; and Don Glen Zachary, 58, Austin. The other 16 face state charges.

Authorities say since at least January 2014, the six men facing federal charges conspired to distribute more than 1,000 dosage units of steroids in tablet form, and more than 200 vials of steroids in liquid form. Those six are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. They face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000 if convicted.

Investigators say they conducted several controlled purchases from Bruner and Rowland during their eight-month investigation, according to the DOJ release. Authorities added a significant amount of steroids and $300,000 in cash and other assets had been seized.

According to court records, most steroid users purchase between one and two 10cc vials at a time which usually lasts between five to 10 weeks depending on the user. A source told authorities that if someone is purchasing eight or more, they’re most likely making money by redistributing the steroids at a higher price.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Texas Department of Public Safety, Cedar Park Police Department, Austin Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Williamson County Constable’s Office.

Is it me or are there more sources being busted lately? Or is it maybe the fact we are bring this information to light via these forums unlike all the others?

No. It seems like there are a lot more busts lately to me. It seems like someone is talking, and they seem to know a lot. Too many decent size labs getting popped or going MIA these days.

Duh, no shit! all LE has to do is sit on this forum or any of the others and you have your starting point. The talking, as you say is, all over these forums. All it takes is, either make an order or narrow down on any one of the members. Find one that has traceable info in their profile and work there. Friends, this is risky business, take it seriously.

that's right GD1....I talked about that last year. They can throw out a big net, pick through it, take what they want and throw back the rest :)

It's quite a few and most I've seen seem to be coordinated between federal, postal, and local. I suspect there is a domestic operation going down.

Surely there is a more harmful substance they could be focusing on busting. Yes, they are all illegal but really ... When was the last time you heard of someone killing, robbing or stealing to support their steroid habit.

Their priorities are really questionable to say the least.

It's a numbers game. Their jobs are justified based on metrics measured at all levels.

Indeed, priorities are questionable, but they have to game the metrics to feed their families. The senior levels of law enforcement are to blame.

No idea of just what their "priorities" are, if I ever did. I don't believe we have local, county and state L.E. anymore, not really. L.E. has slowly become federalized over the years, we all know that. "senior levels" would go all the way to Washington. Eventually, if not already, almost one big police state.IMHO.

Completely agree ... It's definitely a numbers game. Sadly, metrics such as those focus on quantity not quality.

Name one other drug that you can take and people say "damn you're looking great!"

Coincidentally, cops appear to be more jacked than ever.
The cops on steroids were targeted in this bust as well:

This shit cracked me up! I try to keep 1-2 years cycles of gear, and I'm not using 1-2 bottles. In fact, I don't know anyone that can use one bottle for a cycle, 10 weeks for 1 bottle, that's one ML per week, LE are awesome at math.
