So for you guys doing bent rows how many are doing them Pendlay style and how many are doing them Yates style? For those that don't know Pendlay is where your back is parallel to the floor and you de weight the bar with each rep. Yates is like the picture below . I have been doing Pendlay. Also which one do you feel you can pack on more weight?download (3).jpg

Lately I've been doing them with an olympic bar and 25 lbs per side. I go Arnold style, or as you call it pendlay. Packing on 3-400 lbs and doing them upright does basically jack shit for most people besides hit their biceps and nervous system

I have too but I have noticed that if I try to pack on too much weight my form falls apart. So I have been doing them with lighter weight but higher reps. I was actually thinking about doing both in my routine.
Wth trap bar pandley style

I have never tried or even thought about this, good idea

You row depending on what muscle you're trying to hit.

Dorian yates style rows - shoulder width grip, torso at 70 degrees in relation to the floor, elbows tucked and row to your stomach. This targets the lower lats.

BB Row - Wide grip, bend over parallel or close to it, and row to your lower chest wide elbows out. This targets the upper back - predominantly the rhomboids, rear traps, etc. Great for upper back thickness.

They Yates row hits more than your lower lats, both are general back thickness exercises and most guys do one or the other. I am considering doing both actually. Seems like most of you guys are all doing Pendlay, I prefer them too and have been making good progress with them.

I was watching Ronnie Coleman do them on one of his training videos and he was barely leaning over at all. Very short ROM. It was far less than 45% degrees. He was doing overhand not underhand.

An underhand grip will help you tuck your elbows more, thus placing more emphasis on the lower lats. Though it also makes it easier to tear your bicep.

I used your tip today for my back session. 25's on each side, so 95 total. Bent over 90deg and pull high to the chest with a wide grip. Great tip thanks man! Awesome change up

+1

No need to go super heavy for bent rows as your back is in a mechanically weak position (which increases the risk for injury), so 95-135lbs for as many reps as you can safely do is fine. I go 135lbs for 10-15 reps (gotta save my back bacon!)

Pendlay because I OLY Lift. If you want to pack muscle, probably Yates because you can put more weight and volume reps because it is not as strict.

Do both, don't let your body get used to anything.

i have tried them both aswell, i prefer the yates style and also slightly closer to parallel than yates. pendlay rows are good but i kinda didn't enjoy them as much pump wise, Still do change my routine up a bit to accommodate for them.

i agree with this call. i have switched to them the last few week i feel it helps keep your chest up and tuck elbows as u stated. great pump and contraction from them aswell :)

I like to do them parellel. I rarely do more than 135 because I start cheating and lifting my back more with each plate I add. I like to use a grip as wide as my bench press grip and really get a good mind to muscle connection while I do them. I like to row at a nice controlled pace. I'm a workin man I need my back unfortunately.
