Blood Pressure

I came across this chart in my files. I thought it would be interesting for anyone considering ARB or ACE drugs. Does anyone use an ARB+ACE combo?

I considered it, however, my creatinine runs a little high, I didn’t like the increase in creatine levels. This study is downright frightening, we have enough kidney issues about which to worry.

I think that study says the opposite of what you said? Only 13 out of 19,000 had this rise in creatinine levels, and it was not due to the lisinopril.

"Possible contributors to rise in creatinine included congestive heart failure, dehydration and infection. No patients developed end-stage renal disease, although three died. In conclusion, end-stage renal disease is an unlikely outcome among patients prescribed lisinopril and is most likely associated with other events."

I did for a few months. I did not record how much and what and the effect, but if memory serves, the blood pressure control was not so noticeably better that it stood out as a solution. I stopped it because somebody with medical training stated that the two taken together work at cross purposes, and I could not learn enough about it to dispute what she was saying, so I thought it best to be prudent and return to monotherapy.

I currently use an ARB (80mg telmisartan).

That’s what I get for scanning articles. I avoided lisinopril because in the side effects increase in creatinine is listed. I found this study, saw the 3rd sentence and said “fuck that.” I stand corrected, I will consider again....cautiously, of course.

Your BP is that poor on a full 80mg/day? Do you take it before bed? Is your HCT elevated?

Morning, and no, HCT is in the normal range
I’ve read that pre bed administration is optimal, not that it would make an impact in your case. The only time my BP gets out of whack is when HCT spikes. I let my E2 run high, usually into the 70s and 80s and it doesn’t affect my BP. So, I got nothing for ya.

How many of you have consulted your doctor regarding blood pressure management? Most doctors are pretty good at finding the right treatment combination with proper monitoring.

Also, here's another graphic related to hypertension I came across while organizing my files that you may find interesting :)

I have. The doctor is who added HCTZ on top of my lisinopril and basically said it was in my head when I talked about the effect it had on me. My guess is they do not deal with a lot of persons who have high blood pressure and also work out with high intensities.

Yeah, sometimes it's hard to find a doctor that really listens. Sometimes they may be right to insist on a particular treatment. But it we do not like the treatment (side) effects, we must insist on an alternate approach and see what they say.

This topic is relevant to me. As a 27 year old, my BP was 132/100, total test 499ng, and E2 was 33pg.

My doctor put me on Clomid 3x a week to boost my T and Anastrozole 3x a week to control the E2.

My BP hovers 121/76 now. Which is better, but still room for improvement.

I subscribed yesterday to the "TrainedByJP" and there is a thread especially on how to treat blood pressure.

Interesting personal anecdote from this past weekend. I do CKD(cyclical ketogenic diet), which is(for me), lower fat, high protein, low carb for 5 days, a depletion workout Saturday morning, and 36 hours of high carbs, moderate protein, low-fat. I typically end up going a little overboard only because I’m able to still make progress end of the next week. Also, I typically end up adding 20-25lbs in the course of the 36 hours. 223 Saturday morning to 247 Sunday night. Was my son’s birthday this past weekend, so, I was excessive. Felt pressure behind my eyes Saturday night, had my wife pickup and omron 5 Sunday afternoon. Got BP readings of 145/75 I guess would be the average, that’s after a full 80mg telmisartan Saturday night. Another full 80mg telmisartan Sunday night, weighed 239 Monday morning, BP was 135/75 average. Another full 80mg telmisartan Monday night, this morning weighed 229, BP is 125/75. TLDR version, gaining 25lbs of water in 36 hours at 47 years old directly affects BP negatively.
