I find it sad that we are so concerned with how others view us.They probably didnt want his memory tainted.
people do stupid stuff when a loved one does. I remember judging people for it until my father died. Then I found myself doing stupid things. The desperation to remember the loved one and find a normal is intense.
Even if it was that person's own fault.
Even old people that are in their 70's and above are so caught up in how they are seen by others.
Everyone wants to be proud of their kids, but I wonder if that is because they want to be seen as conforming to society and not stick out.
I mean when is the last time you saw a parent that was totally relaxed and told their neighbor that yeah my son doesn't like to work and he dabbles in drugs and prostitutes and you know what that's great that he's found a purpose in life and is enjoying himself. Just let it all hang out and don't worry about it.
Matter of fact this way of thinking is so uncommon that I think it would blow the average persons mind if you had this attitude in life and they'd actually respect you more for being honest and they might admit that their son and daughters are fuckups as well and then eventually people could just all be fuckups together holding hands and singing songs.
