can music whhile you lift effect your fatigue and recovery?

I like to listen to techno while I lift. I find it gets me into a zone of sorts. However in my earlier (read younger and crazier) I took ecstacy on occasion. Even thought it has been a couple years I still get similiar "flash back" feelings when I listen to techno. My question is that could this be increasing my bodies CNS fatigue and consequently my recovery? I know this is an odd question but I bet someone has an opinion.

thanks,

Going to failure will increase CNS fatigue and delay recovery. I don't think listening to music will though.

I don't think so. But I have seen studies that show that prolonged exposure to techno music will make one dress funny and, eventually, turn gay.

No shit.

I think it does. Whenever some song that pumps me up comes on in the gym, I get a 2nd wind so to speak. Especially on cardio, or when I'm doing intense stuff like DL or squats. I also do the same thing when there are other people that walk by. I straighten my form up, and generally blast out one more rep if I can. Sort of a semi subconcious push. It may be mental, but we all know what the mind can make the body do.

Not sure about the recovery part, but pumpin techno through the head phones while doing cardio or pushing weights are perfect combination for me. Helps me find that zone, close out all the other distractions and chit chat, gets the adrenaline going. A good, natural high. Probably will make me deaf though...

Saying that listening to techno helps you perform better, which I don't doubt, is far from saying that it fatigues the CNS and impairs recovery.

alright I didn't quite explain it right I guess. It is just a question of whether or not getting that pumped up psyched feeling causes increased fatigue of the cns. I have heard some guys say that getting mentally "psyched" to lift can increase stress on the cns and consequently it is better to be calm through your workout as long as you aren't trying to set a PR or anything like that.

Sounds like a load of pseudoscience BS to me.

Those whom you hear the stories about, IF THEY ARE TRUE, are probably jacked on about 100mg of ephedrine, or worse.

Music is a great tool. And I know this will get laughed at, but I've found that classical instrumental works (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) actually allow for better focus and thus performance. They just aren't as much fun as old Metallica.
