Can touching a barbell in the gym get you sick with the coronavirus?

Since the initial reports of a cluster of pneumonia cases of unidentified origin in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, the novel coronavirus that causes this disease — severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) — has spread throughout the world, igniting the twenty-first century’s deadliest pandemic.

Over the past 12 months, a dizzying array of information has emerged from numerous laboratories, covering everything from the putative origin of SARS-CoV-2 to the development of numerous candidate vaccines.

Many immunologists quickly pivoted from their existing research to focus on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and, owing to this unprecedented convergence of efforts on one viral infection, a remarkable body of work has been produced and disseminated, through both preprint servers and peer-reviewed journals.

Here, we take readers through the timeline of key discoveries during the first year of the pandemic, which showcases the extraordinary leaps in our understanding of the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 and highlights gaps in our knowledge as well as areas for future investigations.

ive literally done nothing to not get covid no extra hand washing wiping shit down at gym and I can confirm I haven't got it (Red Cross gave blood no antibodies). very contagious and dangerous virus for sure

I haven't kept up with this thread, so I don't know if this has been covered.

The answer is no. We went through a year of washing our hands and sanitizing everything for no good reason. Almost everyone who caught covid got it through breathing the air in the same room as someone who was infected. Hardly any cases (if any) came from people touching a surface or from not washing their hands.

I mean, washing your hands consistently is a good idea for lots of reasons. Not being gross, for one.

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be an obsessive thing you do every 20 minutes. I was seeing guys at the gym wash or sanitize their hands after every set. There's no need for that when it comes to avoiding SARS-COV2. If you're a cook at a restaurant, sure.

I read 95% of the "covid" deaths were just people who died and had "covid" confirming that the "pandemic" was a lie, as most people with. brain knew
Where did you read this? It's complete bullshit. You work in the medical field? Have you seen the inside of an ER or ICU? Until you've worked there, or seen it first hand you probably shouldn't make such idiotic comments about something you know nothing about.

That is just not the case at all. What is usually meant is that the vast majority of those who die infected with Covid have one or more "co-morbidities" that increase the chances of death. For example, the two biggest are obesity and diabetes. That does not mean it was a "lie," but just that certain persons are more likely to die due to health conditions that make the the virus deadlier for them.
