At least 40 Canby residents crowded into the city's council chambers Wednesday, lobbing questions at elected officials about what they knew and when they knew it regarding an ongoing FBI inquiry into the city's police chief and his alleged cover-up of an officer's steroid abuse.

Residents of the Vine Meadows neighborhood also said they were fed up with police response to problems on their street that they've tied to neighbor William Traverso, whom FBI agents identified as a methamphetamine user who supplied steroids to former Canby police Officer Jason Deason. Deason resigned from the Canby police in July, after abruptly ending an interview with the FBI and then making threatening phone calls to his ex-wife. Chief Greg Kroeplin has been put on paid leave pending the FBI inquiry and an independent personnel inquiry. No criminal charges have been filed.
