Cellulose Nitrate filter compatibility

Hey guys,

I stumbled across some old Cellulose Nitrate filters collecting dust. I've been searching and scratching my head, but answers are limited at best. Are they sufficiently compatible for your standard homebrew? They have limited compatibility with organic solvents, which I would assume means the filters wont have exceptional durability.

Am I correct?

So for anyone interested,

I wrote to a rep for one of the big filter companies, and was told it will have limited compatibility. No more, no less.

Would anyone be interested in a scientific experiment with brewing through a Cellulose Nitrate filter?

Just an update for any of you apes who ever come across this.

I accidentally ended up with nalgene one piece filters with the plastic recepticle. Under moderate pressure, 2 cracked. One after 85ml, and another after 70ml. I never went higher than 10 psi of negative pressure and they still blew.

That being said, I pinned 10ml of gear filtered with the CN filter and no infection, swelling, red bumps, nada. Smooth. If you are in a pinch, they will work. Just as long as you are aware that organic solvents don't play well with them and you wont be getting 1000ml per filter.
