City of Grit's first go at powerlifting

My light day is at 65% so it doesn't hit a 70% threshold. I'm wondering why my lower back got involved today. Something must have been off with my mechanics

I was gonna say I usually just throw on the belt at specific numbers, but I looked at the percentages of those numbers and they're right about 70% or so.

It happens. I think the squatting I did last week plus the conventional block pulls fatigued my lower back enough I felt the need to skip my deadlift work Saturday. Or that I never really took much a break after the meet. Maybe both.

Perhaps my body was still tired from heavy squat day

Heavy deadlift

135 × 8
185 × 8
225 × 6
275 × 5
325 × 3
350 5 × 5

These were grinding sets. Im at 81 % of my max. Set four I just got it in my mind to rip that fucking bar off the floor and it came up easy. When I set up for my last set, I thought I had the same mentality....first rep was fucking brutal. Last rep my ass shot up too fast and it was mostly back.

Light bench

135 × 8
185 × 8
210 5 × 5

Felt fatigued still from yesterday.

Sumo deadlift

205 4 sets of 8

Absolutely tore my shins up. I had blood flowing down my left shin. But I felt great on these.

Pendlay rows

5 sets of 9

I was just tired when I hit these.

@Perrin Aybara @Worf in comp, is it a missed lift if your legs straighten before you straighten your back?

Nope, up is up no matter how ugly. I think some of the feds disqualify you if you get blood on the platform. Get some deadlift socks or football socks.

OH press

95 × 8
115 × 7
130 5 × 5

Light deadlift

135 × 8
185 × 8
235 5 × 5

Just used a conventional stance and overhand grip.

Single arm military press

50 4 × 8

Dragon flags

5 × 9

I tried 315 on bench tonight and got it! That's a PR and I'm not even through the program yet. It came up pretty easy. I didn't record it though, I wasn't sure I was going to hit it because I barely warmed up to it. I started with 225 × 5, then 265 × 3, then went for it. I will record it next time and post it in the race to 315 thread. I'm bummed I didn't record it. How many days should I wait to attempt it again?

Congrats on the three plate bench, huge milestone. It's my opinion people shouldn't max often in training, but as far as when it doesn't matter much. If it wasn't crazy hard a few days should be fine.

Thanks!! You, @Worf, @Btcowboy, and @NovaFlex are my inspirations! I want to record it so I will try it maybe Sunday or Monday again. The guy spotting me was super impressed and said I probably could have 325. I'm pissed at myself for not recording though.

Damn. Beat me to it lol. I believe I’m about a month away, give or take. Congrats dude.

It happens. When you get more used to recording you'll get almost everything. That's actually how my first 315x1 went, it felt and looked easy on video and I went for 325x1 and got it right after.

I can't remember if you've mentioned it, but how much do you weigh?

That's impressive at that bodyweight. You might hit the elusive 2x bodyweight before long.
Honestly that would be awesome! What I want is 405..four plates! And I want my squats heavier for sure. I'm getting addicted to the feeling of heavier weights :D
I'll tell you, though, some of the heavy days have actually been the first times I've ever actually not enjoyed the gym lol
