It's only just begun. Makes me wonder what history we were all lied to about in grade/high school history class. I wonder what REALLY happened during world War 2. It must have been so much easier back then for the government to spread bullshit and erase the past, when all there was for information were newspapers.

I'm not black but if I was, I would rather not look at a a symbol of black people's slavery. Would you agree?

My family's cherokee Indian. NOBODY is bitching about shit that happened hundreds of years ago. Know why!? We wernt there, It happened, and isn't gonna change a damn thing
Exactly. And at least we know something about it because it wasn't completely erased from our history like an episode out of the fucking twilight light zone.

My great grandmother was full blood Cherokee.
So was my great grandfather named Paw. My parents tried to get school assistance for us kids, and got shot down. I guess great gramps had 'Caucasian' on his birth certificate. More than likely to avoid persecution. Maybe we're cousins lol.

Removing monuments isn't "erasing history". These monuments glorify people who fought to keep chattel slavery in place.

We could take this one down, then build a new one of the same guy lynching a bunch of innocent black children? That would be more accurate anyway. Or using them as cannon fodder. But I digress.

The point is that history isn't being erased. We don't maintain our history with a simply statue of some guy. We have detailed accounts written down, we have pictures, legal documents, and more recently, video footage.

The point is not to erase history. The point is to get modern people to stop revering guys who fought for immoral, heinous laws and policies.

We should have statues of the heroes who fought for the right things, but still remember those who fought for the wrong things, so we don't repeat their mistakes. The confederacy was wrong. Slavery was terrible and morally wrong, plain and simple.

That doesn't pass any judgement at all on to the people who live there today. Everyone is born with a clean slate and people on both sides meed to remember that. We all have the opportunity to fight for a better future for everyone, for all the species on this planet (because it is not all about just us humans).

Yes, liberals have their issues. The GOP is also fucked up. All our politicians are fucking assholes that don't give a fuck about The People. They want us to be divided so they can continue progressing coprorate lobbyist agendas while we are distracted arguing about some statue of an asshole from 200 years ago.

Everyone needs to get off the news, stop with the bullshit, and STAY FOCUSED on what matters:

1. Mitigating/stopping climate change, because otherwise we are all gonna die. Plain and simple.

2. Fixing the taxation issues in the US and reduce the atrocious wealth gap.

3. Bettering our education systems and standards so we stop raising idiot children that can barely do basic algebra, or think the Nazi's have a base on the moon or that the earth is flat.

4. Campaign finance reform/getting money out of politics and changing the way lobbying works in the US

5. Get far left liberals to stfu about gun control, and realize that not everything in life is free and that usually you gotta bust your ass in your 20s annd 30s if you wanna really make something of yourself.

6. Get far right GOP to stfu about immigration, and realize that trickle down economics doesn't fucking work at all, and that we need true tax policy reform, especially for the top 1%, if we want to better our country as a whole.

I'm done here. I try to avoid political threads because they always devolve into poop slinging. But really, who gives a fuck about this statue? Right wing peeps always say "don't be a sheep!" Well, by allowing the media to distract you with this garbage "news", you are being precisely that: a sheep. An easily manipulated sheep that is contributing to the slow but steady degradation of this once-great country by focusing on bullshit rather than pushing towards progress. Outrage media should be fucking shunned by every human on earth. We should be getting factual information to form our own opinions with, not being told what to think by talking heads. Unfortunately, many people dont even understand the difference...which is why #3 above is SO important!

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I agree with everything except downplaying any aversion to immigration right now in America. One million arrests at the border just recently is more than a red flag. That is signaling invasion. And needs to be stopped. There are over 11 million illegals roaming the country at large. We don’t need to add millions more and change the cultural face of our country for the worst forever.

I can't have a conversation with a moron. You bypassed the entire point by imputing your personal opinion on what the essence of that statue remaining upright means; socially & psychologically. To you, it remaining upright, is bad. Then you wandered off into more unrelated topics.

I spoke of the statue being removed equating to this Country removing more of its history, which is clearly the case, regardless of my personal opinion of what the statue represents: socially, psychologically or, in your case, moronically.

Statue doesn’t mean shit to me as an American, socially nor psychologically. Only nurturing nostalgia for the losers of the Civil War. Do you believe you’re entitled to someone else’s freedom and labor without just compensation (i.e. slavery)? Because that is what the Confederate States of America and their Democrat sympathizers up north stood for. That is their history and as much as they want to virtue signal and bow to minorities now they can’t bury their heads up their ass nor erase it from record. So that is not up for discussion. History isn’t being erased. But one thing we shouldn’t do is pay homage to men willing to kill their own country men for sake of making a living on the back of negros. Morally repulsive whichever way you slice it. And I’m a race realist myself.

@MFAAS
lol not trying to be a dick

Removal of the statue by its nature, removes the heinous subject matter from debate, discourse and learning from past mistakes.

If we want to carry it further, every single war the USA has been in since WW2 has been under deceptive circumstances for the gain of a few.

Every time I walk past a memorial I cringe at the hundreds of thousands of lives lost to line the pockets of a few. Do we remove every war memorial?

That is the point.

Yeah I am not saying it should be ignored outright. The immigration process needs to be streamlined, but the people immigrating arent coming to rape your daughters and murder your families. They are just trying to work jobs out in the field harvesting crops for a few dollars per day. Not saying there aren't some dangerous people, but there are plenty of dangerous american citizens too. If we deported all those immigrants our economy would take a maasive hit, unfortunately. I sure as hell don't want to do the work they gladly do!

I dont have a good solution offhand, I was more referring to the right wing fear mongering about it. It isn't harmless, but to think we need to build a new wall and apend $15 billion on it...all a
While cutting funding for scientific research like atmospheric monitoring (kinda important to prdiict hurricanes and storms) and space exploration...well it just seems really unwise to me. Not to mention to child separation policies and all that, they purposefully caused severe mental trauma to these immigrants, who are human beings just like us, and deserve to be treated better. Then there's the damage caused to nature as well, which has been very detrimental to the wildlife and environment. I think the people who live here and contribute to society should somehow be given the opportunity to become a citizen, it would need to be done very carefully though, so as not to reward illegal immigration.

Again. I dont have the right answer, but I know what was done was wrong. It also amazes me that you have people up in Minneapolis and Idaho and whatnot all up at arms about Mexican immigrants, that's that fear mongering at work. Disengage from the media people...you will be so much better off!!

OKAY.
Now I know having a realistic conversation with you is a waste of time.

HUH?

Do you know how many illegals are in trade jobs that permanently shut down the ability for legal citizens to work in trades?

Dude. You're an emotional, feely sort of guy. God bless you.

"Not trying to be a dick", yet you start out your other post with with "I can't have a conversation with a moron."

The fact that you can't see how the points I made are related to this topic, to me, shows that you don't think about the big picture. And that's fine, we are just having 2 different coversations then, so I dont feel like taking the time to write an elaborate response. I honestly don't give a shit what happens to that statue. I think statuesinherently glorify whatever they are modeled after. That's why there are no statues of kids being hanged or slaves being raped or beated or native Americans being slaughtered. The statues are of the. "War heroes." Thats why they were erected and that seems to be how most people view them now. Go back and read my post again with an open mind, maybe sleep on it and read it in the morning. I would be happy to chat when I am not being called a moron and my whole post goes misunderstood. I'm done for the night anyway so yeah, take your time in responding.

Lol okay, disregard my other post. Peace dude.

No. I dont. Can you produce reliable data to inform me as to what this number is?

Also, you don't know me, but thanks for misjudging

You're right about me making this more toxic (based off your idiotic comments), than is necessary.
I apologize.
Idiot.

Yes it IS being erased dude. They arnt even teaching grade school kids that the native Americans were wiped out by the white man after Columbus came here. Thats a fact. . Go read a 4th grade history book and see what the kids are being taught. Im sorry, I mean app on a iPad, not book.
