Coroner says bodybuilder's failure to wipe stopper led to death from massive infection within 48 hrs

There is no way that it would cause death

I don't know what your referring to and it's obvious neither do you, bc it's quite clear this gent DIED is sepsis and repetitive inoculation of contaminated drugs whether it's heroin or GEAR can or could most certainly result in Bacterial Endocarditis, which can lead to ones DEATH!

Moreover if your thinking one first NEEDS a superficial nidus of infection such as an skin abscess for BE to occur you are WRONG.

Although the heart may become infected due to some distant source in typical BE the valves themselves bc the focus and "seed" other areas such as the lungs and occasionally the brain.

When the latter occurs death is THE RULE not the exception.

ALWAYS PRACTICE STERILE TECHNIQUE or RISK AN INFECTION!

Did the Coroner arrive at this conclusion prematurely I DONT KNOW and neither does anyone else.

There's a limit to what is required by law with respect to the PROXIMATE cause of death.

He could have done any number of tests to RULE OUT FOUL PLAY and make the determination the BB died of "NATURAL CAUSES".

Don't miss what so important here and it's NOT the CORONER or the MEDIA. PRACTICE A STERILE TECHNIQUE ALWAYS!

Not sure if this helps sterilization or not, but I keep my open vials in a rx bottle after every use. I still clean top with alcohol swap before and after every use.

Lots of bugs out there. A friend told me about some she knew who was putting silverware in the dish washer and jabbed a fork under her fingernail. She was dead 48 hours later.

Careful loading the dish washer.

Wtf? Wow. I better wash my hands after picking my butt.

There seems to be some assumptions being made here, that are questionable.

Just because they didn't FIND sterile alcohol rubs in his bag with the rest of the stuff, doesn't mean that the guy definitely did not use any during his injection procedure! Who is to say that he didn't pack just enough sterile wipes to get him through that injection?

That was confirmed. Depends on how deep you pick and if your nails a well trimmed or not. Only you know where your mitts have been. Just be careful loading the dish washer.

The lesson from this thread is a little rubbing alcohol on on the stopper before drawing your gear is wise. Be safe, and it takes no time really.

Yea but there's also a limit to what an ME can mention to the public that we are not being told to PROTECT THE PATIENT and his right of non-disclosure.

Was he HIV positive
Was he a diabetic
Did he use IVDA
etc.

This type of information remains confidential in spite of his demise, unless the risk of non disclosure, exceeds the risk to the community with respect to a communicable disease.

We also don't know if or how much influence the family had on the MEs comments to the press.

Rest assured although it's the exception, I've seen some pretty sloppy prep work on behalf of even experienced BB, and unlike noobs who typically acquire infections bc of ignorance, those who are more seasoned KNOW BETTER and typically develop infections bc of a sense of complacency.
