Dirts Brew log

I’ve been putting glass media bottles (and any other glass item) in the oven at 550F for 10 min to dry heat sterilize. First time I forgot to take off the plastic ring... I rinse with isopropyl alcohol, then distilled water before putting the item in the oven.

Thank you brother

This method is super easy lol imo. Can custom brew concentrations easily
I kept having trouble with the end that plugs onto the filter kept breaking and I had to go through 3 or 4 hoses. I was probably trying to push it on too tight. And then i blew out a filter.. just wasnt aware of the amount of pressure i was putting it under but I'm learning.

once you get it, it will be easy. can use multiple caulking guns so it does a slow drip method.

I was under the impression that dry heat sterilization had to be low heat around 250 for a couple hours with aluminum foil on top of vials for evaporation. I know there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Am I wasting time by doing low heat and baking longer? I buy non sterile vials and give them the 99% iso alcohol bath rinse distilled water and line them all up on a baking sheet open end up put aluminum foil sheet on top and bake low and slow. I also have an autoclave but have yet to use it, for some reason it scares the shit outta me building pressure. It came with no instructions from china so hopefully you see my concern.

I purchased some bottle top filters and a pump but I feel like I would need to do brews of at least 200-300ml for that method.. I have no idea what I would do with that much dope. But I figure I could filter it into media bottles and I bought some open caps(those Dam things are expensive) and some silicone plugs so I can just draw it out as needed.

Here is an abstract of a study which determined 150C for one hour should suffice:

You already posted this in this thread

The person you quoted was asking about sterilization of glass vials. He was not asking about dry heat sterilization of carrier oils which we do not do in home brewing.

You win the prize for superior intellect and I win the prize for failing to read on a 5th grade level. My apologies, Sir!

Some people do dry heat sterilize carrier oils, but obviously not you! Congratulations!

What amazes me is how some people are so stuck in their ways, that they fail to believe anything different can be of benefit. Instead of accepting that there could be scientific, potential harm reduction reasons for doing things differently, they just blindly try to argue that there is no reason to do so. This level of ignorance is unbelievable!

Each person will have their own level of tolerance for harm reduction and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

You do you!

You are just being passive aggressive and he does not deserve your useless sarcasm, just because he pointed out the obvious.

You can't recognise what you meant in this instance was misguided.
There's one thing for you to learn.

So I see you edited your message, adding a lot, including:

Exactly.
And when you wrote about it, nobody took the mickey out of you

When you first joined you argued with a chemical biologist about the use of heat as he was trying to explain the benefit of using as little as possible when brewing
In this thread your “advice” caused the OP to overheat his brew and eventually decide to toss it.
You are still very much in the learning stage but are pushing your beliefs on to others because you read about something about a study.
I mean no harm or offense and you are entitled to your beliefs and methods but do not push them on others when there are specific known reasons not to use those methods in the brewing process.
There have been very knowledgeable and experienced brewers that have explained that your “dry heat sanitization method” is not needed or recommended.

Ignorance is bliss!!! Do research, and then ask yourself why Bayer sold one of their testosterone patents for 500 million pounds a couple of years ago. That 500 million pound patent references dry heat sterilization.

Look at the above document. It also references terminal dry heat sterilization.

How can you be so ignorant of information that is readily available?

You don’t have to agree, but accept that there is also evidence that is contrary to your established beliefs.

Unbelievable!
