Do you really need Deadlifts?

Nobody needs to do a specific exercise...but I can definitely say I've never seen someone with a good deadlift that doesn't have an impressive back. One of the few exercises that trains every single muscle of the back. I change it up and do them every week. Sometimes at the end of the workout like some snatch grip rack pulls, or at the beginning with some heavy romanian deads but personally i love the deadlift for it's muscle building and its difficulty

Coming from a powerlifter background, I always do deadlifts, deficits, snatch-grip, of some kind or another. According to anecdotes and studies confirm this, the standard deadlift is uniquely fatiguing. I have seen and experienced deadlifts ruining same-day benches, but not the other way around. Do deadlifts last in your workout, and you may want to replace some of the deadlift volume with RDL, rack pulls, or something similar but not as taxing.

In prep for my last competition, I would always do deadlifts very first (usually working up to heavy singles, doubles and triples, but always using an RPE scale, not percentages) and then do atlas stones very last. I think this conditioned me very well, for strongman anyways.

For sure, if you are powerlifting or strongman then deadlifts are required.

Atlas stones are fun as hell, but my technique sucks so the difference between the heaviest stone vs/ my deadlift is embarassingly high. I have a few home-mades stones on stands in the front yard -- the neighbors thought they are eccentric garden decorations until they saw me lift and move them around. I should have worn a vintage-style animal print unitard like the strongmen from the early 1900's

Atlas stones are my favorite.

Overrated for purely bodybuilding a rack pull will target back traps etc and allow better contractions overall

then you could do a plated or dumbbell rdl or straight leg for hamstring

what I do and get the best of both
