J DUB said:What are dumbbell flies? Is this some new type of fly species that was unheard of until today? It is flyes, not flies. Not that I really give a sh*t since flyes suck anyway, but just thought I would chime in.

J DUB said:Actually, it is dumbbell FLYES! And no matter what you say, they still suck. Since you seem to be into BB'ing, go to bodybuilding.com and they spell it FLYES. I'm sure Arnold's encyclopedia spells it like that, too.
J DUB said:I have a Ph.D. in etymology and it is flyes. Does that settle the debate?![]()

There is a reason why "flyes" and "lies" rhyme...
I've never known any real BB'r in 12 years with serious mass who uses flys to bulk. I understand if you're looking for striation enhancement or trying to develop an area of the pec, but for general SIZE; inclines.Neodavid said:The reason escapes me, perhaps you could fill me in...

That's my $.02 and I know everyone has their own development techniques.
Does the ref make sense now?

If they make you hit the muscle harder, or help you fill out or whatever then you should keep doing em!Neodavid said:Gotcha... Yeah, I don't get major size from them, but somehow they seem to enhance the muscle just a bit, and with my physique, I need it (Pee Wee herman's whimpy cousin genes).
The benefit may even be psychological, but something about that exercise seems to hit my pecs more. You know, it may even be the stretch... I've never tried using a depth bar, but we have one with a chest cavity cut out, I should try that. Getting my hands below chest level may be a POF sort of muscle stress normal normal benches can't reach. Safer too, I've hurt myself hyperextending with flies.
