Fasted morning HIIT vs 45-60mins med level cardio in the evenings For fatloss

So I've picked up an old airdyne to starting incorporating tabata rounds in the morning fasted before work. I'm doing 8 rounds right now at 100% energy (or as close as I can manage). 20 seconds on 20 seconds off. Pretty much dying by round 5 or 6 and nauseous ready to puke by the end lol. I've heard a few sources claim this type of training shouldn't be done every day due to the shock on your nervous system... My goal is fatloss and muscle retention right now. I'm eating at a pretty heavy calorie deficit 500-800 calories below Maint calories. I'm running a little heavy on my trt dosage (250mg/wk) which is helping keep my lifts up and muscle in tact during this drastic cut. I'm curious on the opinion of different types of cardio to aid in fat loss. Honestly if I had it my way I would just lift heavy and maintain eating in a deficit for fat loss but I think I need to add some cardio to aid in general health and well-being. Due to my work schedule I'm currently using HIIT in the morning since it only takes 5 minutes lol. Should I start thinking about adding additional cardio at night when I get off work? Maybe 45 minutes to an hour keeping my heart rate around 140bpm. I'm in my late 30s

if you’re looking at what’s proven to primarily burn fat, then it’s low intensity cardio. But HIIT training will burn more calories which will also result in weight loss if you’re in a deficit. Not sure if 5 minutes would be enough to do much aside from the mental benefits. It’s still way better than nothing though.

I’d suggest getting a good lift in, and going for a 30-45 minute walk in the morning or night.

Or honestly if you make the time, do it all brother! The HIIT stuff is great for power and endurance, but slow walks in a deficit are also great for targeting fat, mental, and heart health. I have a buddy who got shredded in prison from those Tabata workouts.

Just because you enjoy oranges doesn’t mean you can’t also enjoy apples. They’re both good for you in the end.

Ya due to my work schedule the HIIT takes place in the am. I lift heavy at lunch break now trying to decide if I start throwing in low level cardio in the evenings after work. I've read some studies on this tabata training and it raising your overall metabolism throughout the day but it's certainly not a consensus among fitness doctors. I think still the main consensus is that low impact cardio 45 mins is the best bang for buck fatloss burner

Yep! Just keep pushing man. I’d suggest you do all of it and if you feel like your energy is being destroyed take out the HIIT. It has awesome benefits but it doesn’t exactly align with your health / fitness goals as much as lifting and cardio.

These are good problems to have. You’re putting in the work and looking for the best ideas.

For sure brother, The 250mg high trt test weekly is helping keep gas in the tank for lifts lol.
