first time running insulin

so i grabbed some long and fast acting insulin and i started with lantus and i started at 1iu and made it to 10iu. i had 0 problems, pin in the morning. meals stayed the same, timing might have been off a litte but nothing serious. my question is i monitor b.g. as i went to make sure i wasnt going to go hypo and i was going to up my dose of long acting till i got lower bg than normal fasted bg. my bg fasted without is 80ish, on lantus my bg was actually high. 100 fasted and then throughout the day it would be 100+. my impression on slin is that it was suppose to drive my bg down? i took today off to see if i had another issue and my bg today was normal, around 80. thanks!

With lantus the chances of going hypo aren’t as bad because the body adjusts quicker since it’s a 24 hour insulin. Wow, you started at a whole 1 unit? Thats pretty hardcore right there! Dude, even 10 units of lantus is nothing, you can’t compare it to humalog. I would take it up to 20iu a day

@Mac11wildcat I know your an expert with this, the OP would love your thoughts.

lol man im just trying to be safe and have no real help on this issue. lol

everyone acting like slin is like splitting atoms and will kill you instantly im just raw dogging it right now hoping for the best.

got it, will try 20iu. lol thanks for your input!

Take and heed the advice of the people here who have had extensive experience in using the various types of slin. Better be safe than sorry considering how powerful insulin is. Good luck on your insulin journey!

I will absolutely not accept the role of “expert” haha

he did also DM me and I didn’t realize he made a thread for it.

I’m honestly a bit puzzled. 10iu is damn near nothing…

I’m calling the real expert @Type-IIx
I think some beginners use it as a start. I know one of the "guru groups" suggests it as a safe extra edge for beginners

Heh thanks bro (I actually refer to a section of my notes on slin, the Mac11wildcat protocol, for practical usage if asked what real pros are doing!)

I'm as confused by this title post as you are.

@JamesDoes
1. Pinning GH also? Or using GH secretagogues? If so, please elaborate on compound, dose, timing versus slin administration
2. Method of measuring blood glucose?
3. Reference ranges and units you are using. How are you defining hypoglycemia? Are you aware of different interpretations of postprandial (after eating, 2 h) blood glucose values vs. fasting 8 h/waking, and what those values and ranges look like?

okay, so i pin 2iu of gh daily fasted in the morning. ive been pinning gh for a week fews. generic gh. i wake up, pin gh and slin and then go and do fasted cardio. i eat after my fasted cardio, i eat 4oz sirloin, 1cup oatmeal, 1 cut egg whites, 2 whole eggs, a scope of protein powder mixed with the oatmeal egg white combo to help me eat it. i train after work right now, when i start using fast acting slin ill switch and train before work.

i measure bg with a bg meter i got from kroger. i measure my bg fasted in the morning, then i measure before every meal. i try and eat every 3 hours. BEFORE slin was introduced, i was at 80 fasted, before a meal i would be at roughly 85-97. ONCE lantus was added to my protocol, my FASTED bg was 100 during the day BEFORE a meal it would range between 100-110. i started my slin at 1iu a day and got to 10iu. yes i know its a low dose but i had no real help so i was being safe and working my way up. i came off slin yesterday because i wanted to see if there was another reason for my bg to be high. i messed up and forgot to check fasted in the morning, but i did 1.5 hours of cardio, got to work and checked and i was at 80 again. will continue to check it.

im aware, at a beginners level, of how fasted, before and post meal and 2hr post meal. i usually just monitor my bg before a meal and fasted. as far as walking fasted etc i havent monitor it that way.

i believe i answered all your questions. my diet is the same thing daily unless i cheat. im at 280 protein and roughly 250 carbs, I THINK. i only want to use slin to help shuttle my glucose into my muscles. thats my logic behind it, plus give my pancreas a break from the constant eating. i had a coach but he wasnt doing what i wanted and was just a cookie cutter program so im not going to follow that diet anymore and will start to up my carbs. i dont plan on making carbs to slin but slin to the carbs im on.

i believe i answered everything. i know its long winded but i tried beating you to possible other questions you might have and gave more info

thanks everyone for the replies and input and help.
