I can understand why some people do have 2nd handles considering that UGLs have some type of info on them. My 2cents.
Exactly! I have been advocating this for some time. But there is a lot of resistance.People should have an ordering handle. That's the handle you order with sources. It should have 0 posts.
Dealer, for example, is my say what I want handle. Say source A gives me an infection. Dealer will post and wreck the source but source can't identify my address and send me a hot pack or post my address on Google.
There is resistance from forum admins. Most forums ban this practice. The rule was designed to prevent scammers from using multiple handles. But it no longer effectively prevents this. It is outdated now with the relatively widespread adoption of VPNs and TOR. Even if it wasn't, the security benefits for members significantly outweigh and spam/scam prevention utility.
The biggest resistance probably comes from consumers themselves. Why?
Because everyone knows that the more "clout", "status", "influence" a member has, the better the chances of not being scammed and/or receiving better deals and more free gear.
When admins/mods and established vets successfully receive gear, it is largely meaningless to the average/newbie consumer as a sole signal of source reliability; don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Sources practically NEVER scam admins/mods and influential vets.
But newbies? That is another story.
Rather than criticize this hierarchy, average members jump on board and do all the things necessary to gain status to become part of this elite group that rarely gets scammed; they want to be beneficiaries of the special perks that come with the privileged membership.
Of course, this is very rational behavior among consumers.
They would rather order using the handle with the 1000+ post count and increase the probability of success rather than use the handle with 0 posts that dramatically increases the odds of being selectively scammed or otherwise dismissed by a source.
Security is willingly compromised for this reason.
It's hard to blame anyone for playing by the "unwritten rules" of the game.
