Because of the risk of communicable diseases multi-dose vials are only selected for SINGLE and SAME PATIENT use!
About the only drug I'm aware of which is readily available in a multi-dose vials
In the U.S. is local anesthetics such as Lidocaine.
When a several hour, complicated laceration repair is performed high volumes (50ml) are often required.
Otherwise MOST frequently used parenteral drugs such as narcs, anti-emetics (nausea), meds are available in prefilled syringes.
However some other drugs are also drawn out of SINGLE USE ampules or vials such as; antibiotics, cardiac, GI and OB drugs.
So the short answer to the question is NO, needles should be used for only ONE PUNCTURE. Administering needed drugs and swapping needles serves NO PURPOSE since several dose vials are only used in RARE INSTANCES as described above.
