Getting back into it

Hey guys. So a little about me... I'm 50yo. 6'2" 235#. I Have around 12 years lifting experience including a few cycles under my belt, but I won't be doing anymore of that. I have been completely out of the gym for the last 2 years, but I want to get back into it. I plan on just starting light and focusing only on compound lifts till my body gets used to the routine again.

My real reason for posting though is because my girlfriend wants to make the gym a habit also. She's 40yo and has some extra weight right now. She could stand to lose 40 pounds or so.
She has zero experience in the gym and I want to help her find the right program to start with. Should she start off doing the compound lifts with me along with cardio? Or are there other things she should start off with? BTW, she does understand the importance of diet. Thanks for your help.

What one does when starting out is less important then learning consistency.
Everything works to start with as it is new stimulus. whole body workouts 3x a week to start has been around for decades. Then if/when more days want to be done then they can be added in. But diet is by far the thing that causes weight loss.
