Guns

Les Baer 1911s are top of the line in my opinion.. but god dam they are so pretty you almost feel bad getting them dirty...lol.... If you don't mind me asking did you come close to getting what you paid for it when you sold it...

Yeah they're great firearms. I pretty much broke even selling it. I wouldn't have let it go for any less, still sucks having to let it go, oh well.

I don't care for all the bling or shine on my weapons. To me, they are a tool and have but one purpose. I would rather my weapon not shine in the glimmer of a light and dressing them up is like putting lipstick on a hammer.
The only bad weapon is one that fails you when you need it and is not due to your own failure to properly train and maintain. I have my favorites, but even the cheapest thrown downs can have have the same end result as the glamour guns. To each his own, just my viewpoint.

I agree .. im just giving examples... kimber is an outstanding option but I guess my problem is from a resale standpoint... I buy sell and trade guns all the time and its pretty easy to trade up say a glock 26 or 27 for a springfield xdm sub compact... or a keltec for a ruger... but man you pay 1400 or more for a kimber custom or gold match or whatever model your in to and try to trade that shit up.. no one wants to come close... it just seems to me that for some reason kimber is hard to deal with if your interested in trading or selling at any point.. ofcourse this is all pointless if you plan on keeping it forever...
You can actually get a Kimber custom II for under 700$. I didn't have much trouble trading, I do the same thing. Buy trade sell. I get what you're saying though.

I agree from a trading standpoint. I do a lot of buy, sell, trading but don't ever get rid of my Colts. I've peddled a few Kimber 1911s, but it usually ends up w my Kimber for 2-3 other firearms. And when you're peddling, the last thing you want to do is have firearms that are less desirable bc you're usually stuck w em. I keep plenty of Glocks, Springfield XDs, etc as trading tools.

Yes that's exactly my point... no one usually wants to come off a fair trade on a kimber... I'm not a huge glockenspiel fan but love the Springfield xd and xdm series.... especially the xdm 45... 13 Rd magazine... gotta love that.... I prefer the 1911 frame .... I used to have a colt gold cup I could hit 6 inch drop down plates with at 55 yards.... got stolen out of my jeep while I was at work... sad...

Problem with the custom 2 is its an aluminum frame.... fine for conceal and carry guns but if ur a shooter and like to put lots of rounds down range it's a problem... in my opinion of course...

I agree with your statement almost 100%..lol ur obviously x military or still in... I did it for 12 years... the only difference in my opinion are ar's.... they are like Legos for adults... I like to dress em up and make em look pretty.... but ya I keep a plain ol keltec 9mm in my glovebox... if they steal that one they only got me for 250..

I like em a lot better with the extended grip mags... without them I don't like the feel... I had a 26 for awhile but traded it for a xd 9 subcompact...

Good choice on XD9 SC. I agree about extended mag. Nothing wrong with few extra rounds. Excellent back up gun. I used to have a cheap ass ankle holster. I never wore it out because I was afraid my gun would launch from ankle holster if I karate kicked someone.

I swapped factory barrels with an elk fire dragon ported barrel. Supposed to be match grade...I noticed my best group at 25' shrunken a bit. What I did notice was how much flatter it shot. Recoil felt quicker which allowed me to get back on target slightly faster. Downside was at night every now and then it shoot fireball out of the ports.

I'm not a huge fan of Glock either. I just picked these up bc they're rare around my parts. I've peddled a lot more Springfield XD series pistols. I, too, prefer the 1911 platform.

Why are gonna karate kick someone if you got a gun on you?

Wow. I just discovered 80% lower glocks with jig. Same concept as 80% ar-15 lowers.

This would be fun little project. @DickySmalls

MARSOC operator changes magazines into a M45A1 close quarter battle pistol. (Marine Corps photo)

The Marine Corps has authorized MARSOC operators to carry Glock pistols, since many of the elite outfit's members prefer the popular 9mm over the custom .45 pistols the service bought them in 2012.

The Corps issued a Feb. 2 Marine Administrative Message, or MARADMIN, that green-lighted Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, or MARSOC, units to use the Glock 19, a proven design used by many units in U.S. Special Operations Command.

The reliable, easy-to-maintain 9mm features a polymer frame and a 15-round magazine.

The Marine Corps just completed an exhaustive search for a new MARSOC pistol in 2012. The service awarded a $22.5 million contract to Colt Defense LLC., for up to 10,000 Close Quarter Battle Pistols.

The custom, 1911 design replaced the fleet of worn-out MARSOC M45 pistols. It features a rail for mounting lights, a custom trigger, a manual safety, improved ergonomics and glowing Tritium sights for low-light conditions.

As nice as the new .45s are, many MARSOC troops prefer to carry Glock 19s instead, sources said.

The 1911 was a ground-breaking design that served the U.S. military before World War I until the mid-1980s. The design is still popular, but it's also heavy, prone to malfunction and limited to seven or eight-round magazines, pistols experts have said.

The Corps began issuing custom 1911 .45 pistols to its elite Force Reconnaissance units in the 1990s. Gunsmiths at the Quantico Weapons Training Battalion Precision Weapons Section hand built them from old 1911s that had been replaced by the M9 9mm pistol in the mid-1980s.

The creation of the first MARSOC units in 2006 caused the requirement to grow from 400 pistols to 4,000 pistols. Finding enough surplus 1911s for the Precision Weapons Section's custom rebuilds became impractical.

The Marines chose to stick with the 1911 design for MARSOC. Marine testers placed a high priority on accuracy. The winner of the 2012 contract had to be capable of putting five-shot groups on target that "didn't exceed four inches by four inches at 25 yards" from an unsupported firing position, Marine officials maintain.

But military pistol experts maintain that the 1911 design, while extremely accurate, requires more training and care than other modern tactical pistols.

Young operators have had trouble with the 1911's beavertail grip safety, according to one former Marine weapons instructor who trained MARSOC members.

Many shooters wearing gloves tend to grip the 1911 too high and do not properly disengage the beavertail grip safety, so the pistol won't fire, he said. A lot of professional shooters who run custom 1911s will disable that beavertail grip safety to avoid this problem, he added.

The 1911 design is also known for feed-way stoppages, a malfunction caused when a round gets stuck feeding into the chamber, experts said. Horizontal and vertical stovepipes – types of malfunctions that occur when an empty shell casing gets caught in the ejection port – are also a problem with the 1911 design.

The Feb. 2 MARADMIN, is an annual message that lays out guidelines for authorized individual weapons, optics and accessories for Marine Corps rifle and pistol training.

I just picked up my first Glock to add to my collection. It's a g20sf
And I bought a lone wolf .40 conversion barrel to plink around with. 10mm can be expensive and hard to find here in California.

Anyone know any good sites to order from? I'm searching for a Kimber Master Carry Pro but i'm trying to get around the 1300.00. Ive searched a few sites and checked a few local places but looks like I'm gonna have to really pay for this one
