there have been a few posts regarding doctors who refuse to acknowledge problems with low hormone's ect... some guys are asking what to do and are obviously frustrated, and rightly so. that said, simply tell the doctors if you do not get what you want or you do not feel satisfied with their services, you tell them you are going to take your business elsewhere. i don't get it. i had an endo tell me that a T level of 310 was fine and he refused to do anything for me. i simply told him thats fine but he won't be seeing me anymore. he asked why and i told him i felt horrible and obviously was suffering from low T and i asked him what he would do. he said he would deal with it. i told him i foind that extremely hard to believe and that i was insulted with that answer. he then recommended me to someone who had more experience. doctors are there for you,not the other way around. are they paying you for their visit? no!!! simply take your business elsewhere. bottom line, don't be intimitaded just because they are doctors. remember, its a business.

HAHAH AHHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...... Your doctor was afraid that he was going to lose $$$ so he treated u......... i had doctors refused to treat me they could of gave crap............... because all of the docs i see are at major hospitals and don't have their own pratices......... doctors are there for u ??????? VERY FEW OF THEM ARE............ and most would rather just shove u full of worthless meds then treat the prob............

My experiences have been similar with comments made by BigRagu.

I have noted an individual on another Board who also takes the approach of just being tough with their doctor, tell him who the boss is, etc., etc. And how he'll cave in cause he needs "your" business, etc., etc.

In my experience that has all been BS.

I have - so far - been through four PCPS (family doctors, primary care physicians, a urologist and two Endos). And every one of them were overloaded with patients, had huge waiting times for an appointment... and could care less if I was their patient or not. They didn't want to listen to my (much more extensive knowledge and I grant that compared to many I'm still a "newbie"). They didn't want to hear anything about Dr. Shippen or ("heaven forbid") read up on Dr. C's current TRT protocol (puffing their chests out and saying "I know how to do TRT"). And not one would agree to work with Dr C (one telling me that he wasn't sure but that he thought it would be illegal to work with an "put of state doctor" - which we all know is total BS).

And in every case where I didn't say "screw it" and move on, in every case where I tried to persist? The doctor himself told me to find someone else that I was no longer considered his patient!

So if in your case he gave you a referral to someone better, someone who really knew TRT, then that's great.

But for the rest of us who aren't so lucky, it's either a continual search... or staying with a doctor who will "just barely do" until you can find someone to work with Dr C or you can get the resources together to make that first visit on your own!

I guess it all depends on the doc. Some will cave and some will stand their ground. The real problem is that they are following "the book" when it comes to the labs. They read them and since the "book" says that as long as it's within range the patient is fine then they accept it. I did have one regular doc who felt the same way and denied me as well. I eventually got treated my SWALE. Once this doc saw the total labs (he refused to check anything other than total T...my DHT was a 12 on a scale of 155-550...low normal T but my LH was way over the top) he realized how wrong he was and vowed to become more open minded. He now checks several extra labs instead of just the main ones.

I have found that Osteopaths tend to be more open minded. (hell, SWALE is an Osteopath) There's an osteopath who does back manipulations on base who I've found is the same way. I just had to see her in the ER and since I was in pain she actually have me some options. You see, normal military docs give you "Vitamin M" (Motrin) and send you on your way. She told me I had the choice of Vicodin, a shot of narcotics (don't know what) or an IV drip of morphine!!!!! I never actually got anything cause I didn't feel my pain was that bad. Point is, she went outside of the norms (for the military) to make sure her patient was taken care of.

So, perhaps an Osteopath is the right choice? SWALE, I don't suppose you could comment on this, could you?

Not all osteopaths are more open minded. The one I went to said I was fine w/ a 287 test level range 240-800( I am 31yrs old) and told me there was nothing he could do even after I told him of hot flashes, low libido and sexual function. I even showed him a copy of Swale's recipie for success.

Long story short I went to see Swale and all the bad stuff is gone and I went back to the 1st O and he said "well there is a possible placebo effect" What an ass.

If you can see Swale.

My doc is a D.O., and from the very beginning told me I needed to be in the upper end of the total and free test, with estrogen controlled.
He calls me on my cell, and discusses my labs, and doseage adjustments.
I've come a long way from the other doctors that prescribe some androgel, run a total test lab, and say I'll see you in 6 months

You should post your Doc's name, if you don't mind. There are a couple of bros here who live in Philly who are looking for good docs, BigRagu being one of them.

What an azz that guy is! I thought going to the doctor WAS dealing with it!

That's what makes Swale such a great doc. He actually treats PATIENTS.
