They will reduce the likelihood of a heart attack and if you catch one of those, you have a 50/50 chance of dying on the spot.



These side effects that you refer to are rare, dose dependent, and also dependent on which statin is being prescribed. I explained all this ad nauseum above and you chose not to read it.

You also chose to ignore the fact that I offered you several other non-statin options to manage your lipids and yet you seem to be hung up on this narrative that big pharma is trying to poison you with their statins.

Well there is data you just choose to to be closed minded and ignore it as it doesn't fit the realm of how you want things to be. Looking at all thing no matter how rare of is sensible. As even if it is rare when enough rare occurrences add up they can make a noticeable difference. Although anyone on it's own may not. . Good lord! Some of this should be stickied, seriously. Blood pressure and heart rate are incredibly important. I read most of this because it really got my attention. I feel like I just got a PhD in medicine. Paging Dr Knucklesamich!

I don't struggle with BP, but Ghoul's polypharma approach definitely merits a sticky

In general i have found just doing the basics such as healthy diet, moderate cardio and keeping stress down tends to take care of most BP issues. For those with health issues or that are on cycles with increased BP adding a BP drug seems a sensible way to go for me. But taking care of the simple basics should be the foundation.

Excellent advice. I’ve used a similar story but with a twist that either I don’t have insurance anymore or new to the plan and need to find an insurance network pcp

Also, I recommend to always try to get highest dose possible prescribed and then just cut the pills if you need to. This will allow you to stockpile meds for future use. I do the same with my insulin. Once I went on pharma ozempic my insulin need was cut quite a bit but I still fill my original rx and just stick the pens in the fridge. They last 2-3 years.

Besides Goodrx, simple care, you also have Cost plus drugs, which is mark Cubans pharmacy. Super cheap. The downside is that they won’t transfer prescriptions over from another pharmacy.

OK, a number of guys prefer to manage it themselves. I was stage 2 as well, now controlled to the ideal of 120/70 with zero sides.

There's a story to give an online prescriber that'll get you a prescription for what.ever BP med you want, it works 99% of the time without issue. 3 months of any of them would typically cost $15.

I asked about insurance because cash prices (with goodRX) are much higher for some than others.

If I were in your position, I'd simply get Telmasartsn 40/Amlodipine 5 (aka Twynsta 40/5).

This is a very low dose.

If you want to go the "get it yourself" route I'll walk you through it. If it works for you, you can tell your primary care provider you got it from telehealth and they can write it for you from then on.

Most PCPs are really behind on up to date blood pressure control, and it's likely you'll find we know more here than they do. It's also something most don't take nearly as seriously as they should, a frequent criticism voiced at every major cardiology conference.

Most docs have a small number of BP meds they are familiar with(there are a huge number of options), and doing it this way will help ensure you get Telmasartan vs any of the other dozens that are available.

This doc started on about how there’s this new drug that controls blood pressure called semaglutide that she thinks would be a good option. Asked me if i had heard of it lol. I was like yeah, I’d rather stick to what worked for me before with no side effects.

I had to send her a drugs.com link to twynsta after the appt because she had never heard of it but after looking at it she sent in a scrip so i assume thats what will be waiting for me at pharmacy. Overall good experience for the Costco $29 rate and much easier than going to my actual doc. She even told me to let her know if it get my BP back down and if so she would send in refills, no complaints at all

Good to hear. I usually give them the generic name, ie Telmisartan/Amlodipine to keep it simple.
