For instance, a townie is someone from Charlestown. If you're 20 and from Charlestown you are NOT a townie, you're a toonie or most likely a yuppie. If you're 45 and from Charlestown you are a townie. Only townies command respect in Charlestown, everyone else can burn in hell as far as we are concerned.

It gets deeper as you go into specific neighborhoods but I'll spare everyone the details. It's all about who runs what area when it's goes that far in.

We have the same thing here in my state, generally it’s derogatory towards a lot of the wanna be white trash and “hood” kids regardless that they come from rich white suburia. Different terms for different towns, as well as regions. And folks from New York. We hate them.

townie was just that in the beginning, a local. But it has always been tethered to Charlestown when in the greater Boston area. It got watered down when rich white people started buying into the neighborhoods. They would buy a brownstone or house, fix it up and move in. All good right? Nope. Now they want to push out the "scum and ghetto" types, who are the people that have lived there since the dawn of time! The very people who made the town what it is are now the problem!?! Fuck that.

C-town has been a melting pot of Irish and other minorities. It's sort of segregated by color but race issues don't pop up often. It's a tight knit community regardless of color or background except for the yuppies.

If you're ever in town grab a sandwich and eat lunch at bunker hill monument. One of the better spots to relax in c-town. Really good view, too.
