How do you recover from ruin?

My whole life was moving toward a goal and I achieved it. That goal got taken away from me.

Nothing major like illness or bankruptcy or loss of spouse or anything.

I found the gym a year after that life ended and it has given me a lot of relief, mainly by slamming all my angst against the biggest weights I can move.

I am not depressed or anything, I am just cruising along knowing my best is gone and can not be repeated/recovered.

I am actually more normal now as I am not driven or obsessed.

Anyone else had to settle for a compromise of your own ideals, how did you change and adjust?

I turn 40 Wednesday bro and am thinking the same thing. I achieved my dream career in the USAF and lost it because of a airborne jump mishap. This last October I had to give up gear and heavy lifting due to heart surgery. My best advice would be try and find a new goal. I've started my journey on getting down to 220lbs and 10%bf. I also try and be the best husband and father I can be. Life is more curve balls then fastballs. What are you passionate about? Whatever you choose attack it with the same attitude that made you successful. Everyone gets knocked down. You can either get up or stay down. You need to come to peace with the fact that you lost something very important to you. Its not easy but you can do it. Best of luck bro. One door closes and another one opens.

Thanks, glad I am not the only one been thru this.

Being a lone wounded animal mofo in the gym prolly saved me from self destruction and got my head clear, deadlift to salvation.

Feel free to chat to a stranger on yr new path bro, I know it sounds weak for guys to talk but Fuk that shit, too old to care about perceptions.

I think were the strong ones bro. Nothing weak about asking for advice when going through shitty times. Its those that keep everything bottled up who implode. And your right. I'm to old to give a shit about how others view me.

Yeah, I pretty much made a trainwreck out of my life during the entirety of the 2000's. I'm starting from scratch in my 30's now. Just have to remember where you've been, be grateful for what you have and get up every day and try to be a decent human being. Find another dream to chase.

Everyone fails, everyone crashes and burns at one point in their life. Hell many of us have crashed and burned more than once. 90% of humans just roll over and die. The other 10% get up and fight. Congratulations on being in the 10%
