human cloning

Well, once we are able to clone an animal that lives a normal life, THEN we can discuss human cloning. Till then, the discussion is useless.

Stem cells dont need to come from an embryo/abortion. You can get stem cells from inside umbilical cords and not have to resort to killing a living entity.

there's nothing normal about having hordes of catherine zeta jones and jessica simpsons, etc... this is freaky shit. i really don't care if there's imperfections and whatnot there as long as they 'look', smell and taste good and they have all the requisite inputs... :D i'm not looking to marry them or have any kind of 'normal' relationship with them either...

to be honest, i bet humans have already been cloned and we will know only what we're led to know about it.

'My own view is that the research [on human cloning] is immoral at the present time and should always be immoral. To make the technique more efficient would require a great deal of experimentation. And to get this more refined would be at the expense of having deformed babies, etc. To get it into a situation where you could clone humans efficiently would have such a history of misery associated with it.'2

Good point gary. So from what I've read I'm assuming you believe a clone would have a soul?

Its useless because we cant even get a sheep clone right! Or any other clone right for that matter! They simply do not (to date) live normal lives.

Personally, I am against cloning. But for the sake of arguement, if we are going to clone humans, I would prefer scientists to at least clone animals that live normal lives before they start experimenting on humans. That hasnt happened, so I am loathe to think about what will happen if we clone humans with current technology.

I agree, unfortunatly I don't think there's any stopping it.

I Dont think so either. A while back some Italian researcher said he was ready to clone a human. Same thing was said in Asia (Korea?). Its a race to be the first. I can only imagine the consequences of their actions.

Completely careless and irresponsible, I can understand someone wanting to distinguish themselve but where do you draw the line.

the one thing we can count on man doing is propagating change. it will happen, no matter how much one whines, bitches and moans. instead of fighting change what we need to do is consider what measures can be taken to make the change more manageable. what mechanisms can we put in place to quantify and control its effects. that's what we need to discuss, not how we are against it, and god is against it and other such empty rhetoric...

South Korean and U.S. researchers say they have successfully cloned a human embryo and extracted embryonic stem cells from it. The experiment, reported in the journal Science, is the first instance of cloned human stem cells -- an important step toward therapeutic cloning, in which patients' own replacement tissue would be generated to treat them.

Good point Chip but I don't believe in giving up fighting for your cause, even if it is a waste of time, it goes against the human spirit, you are right though, and it would be more efficient to expend all energies toward managing and policing the issue.

i, too, believe in fighting for your cause. it just seems more prudent to use our resources, in the little time we have left, to setup a framework of rules with which we can monitor and control cloning. it's not an issue of being for or against it. it's an issue of managing the consequences of the inevitable.

i like your thinking rambo. we could rock this world :)

I think its cool, emagine if we cloned thick, or fatfood, or even FTW yeh and even me , then I would have everybody wearing speedo's or maybe even get the PT out more often. holy shit would this world be in for a big fucking surprise,

Hopefully someone will have the brains to get the ball roling.

I dont think humans should be cloned but it would be nice to grow 1 set of spare organs for everyone. Than you could do a 5 year dbol only cycle. Get drunk everynight and trade in your liver for the new one at the end of your cycle.

Didnt the US already ban all human cloning last year or 2002?

the us also banned alcohol during prohibition. didn't work too well did it? so then they tried to come up with measures for dealing with it (it being the boozing that was inevitable). that's what i'm talking about.
