You’ve always known it (or felt it)... that your heavy metal, hardcore rap and fist-pumping house tunes on your workout playlist make you stronger. Think about that perfect song you use whenever you're going for a new personal record on the deadlift or bench press. It may hold more power than you think.

It turns out there are a number of other "psych-up" of methods you can use to boost physical performance. These are backed by research and, best of all, don't cost a dime. Eliot on youtube talks about this...but its more of a mental game...

Basically, you find a memory when you felt invincible, strong as fuck, happy as fuck etc.... and before your Max rep or working sets you call upon that memory and once your feeling it, you instantly do it without a thought.

I actually do this and it works.

The more workouts you put in your ability to get this same effect by psyching yourself up increases greatly.

Granted, I'm considerably older than most on here at 48 but I'm at the stage now when I'm on the platform at a powerlifting meet and getting ready to lift I block out the music, the crowd and everything else. It is just me and the bar.

Some guys also use nose torque (smelling salts) to get the same effect of getting the adrenalin flowing. I've tried it on several occasions but never noticed that it gave me a boost, plus if I hit it too hard it makes my eyes water which can negatively impact my lifts.
