WOW- and the general public perceives us as meat heads. We are among the smartest person ever to walk the face of the earth. The standard IQ test (WAIS-III) has a full scale IQ floor (lowest score) of 45 and a ceiling (highest score possible) of 155. The score distribution is based on the Bell curve so 100 is the average IQ score with a standard deviation of 15. 68% of the population will have an IQ between 85-115, 95% of the population will have an IQ between 70-130, and 99% of the population will have an IQ score between 55-145. How odd that the top .01% of intelligent people are posting on the same thread. Meat heads, I think not.
Intell. is realy ones ability to adapt in a specific culture. Gardner has has, I think 9 or 10 different types of intell. When you think about it being able to put a basketball though a hoop is one form and reading and math are others.

Computer science. There are several different ways I can go with this so I'm still not set on a specific area. Computer and network security seems interesting and there is a university near me that offers 2 and 4 year degrees in that field. I'm not sure how much demand there would be for that in my area though.

Geez guys, I thought I did pretty good with a 127. I'm going to take it again later and see if I can do a little better. Hopefully I don't do worse!

good choice thl. whatever you do, don't get a microsoft certification. not worth it, imho. network design and internetworking (e.g. cisco internetworking) are a solid choice. you will work with the hardware/software that connects various lan's (local area networks) without having to deal with the specific operating systems like win98, nt, win2000, xp, etc. network security is always good as there will always a demand for this. another very good-paying job is market data systems. these are systems that banks and trading floors use to do trading. this is what i do these days. let me know if i can help in any way.

Chip, i disagree with you, it certainly adds credit to the IT pro to get the MS certification, and if he learns something such as messaging and directory services, and he learns it well (becomes a subject matter expert in the area), he could easily find a good job.

the other problem is that you get ms certified and the next year they come up with a new operating system and you have to get re-certified. this sucks. you don't have to re-certifiy with unix or cisco.

I think a comp sci degree would be wasted in security unless you worked for a security research firm. Configuring firewalls, VPN, and encryption gear with canned software or working with embedded devices along those same lines is not really what a computer scientist or computer engineer is trained to do. Sure, you can do it with a comp. sci. or comp. e. degree......but so can a guy who made it through an information technology degree...or a plain business degree for that matter. In these cases, your success is moreso dependent upon your follow on training with the manufacturer's product than your core education.
On the other hand, if you have aspirations of becoming a computational physicist or the like, I would strongly suggest comp sci or mathematics.

You keep saying that an IQ test doesn't measure how smart someone is, that is wrong. To quote you: "Even so that would not necessarily mean that I am smarter, just means that I have a higher IQ."
Scores on IQ tests do tell us how smart someone is. The higher someone scores the smarter they are. The words "intelligence" and "smart" are synonymous. IQ tests measure intelligence (i.e. smarts) quite well (see #2 in my previous post).
An IQ score of 164 would put in you the 99.99945830469488 percentile. The rarity of that would be 1 out of every 184,606 people. That is why I said a standard deviation of 4.4 above the mean an unlikely event. I didn't say it isn't true, I said it was unlikely.

Well, not really. IQ scores measure someones resources and intell. is the ability to adapt in a particular culture and enviornment. What you are taking about is fluid vs crystalized intell. The culture is the key factor- for example- take an African who lives on the plains and has great tracking ability and give him the WAIS he would have a very low verbal IQ and crystalized intell. In his enviornment we would not survive. With how we measure IQ we are "much smarter" but would not make a week in Africa. IQ measures resources. People can do all kinds of things with resources- good, bad, not use them, etc. The unibomber Ted Kazinski (sp?) has an IQ of 142, placing him in the 3rd standard deviation and with a standard error he is in the .01% of the population. He is not so smart b/c he choose to spend the rest of his life in jail.
