Is taking preworkout once a week bad for you?

I've heard from many users and articles that negative side effects can become prominent in individuals that take preworkout once a day (ex. damage to the adrenal system, long term insomnia, increased concentration of connections within the stress areas of the amygdala, etc.). For these reason, I've only taken preworkout once a week for the past two years, as a fun little "boost" to my favourite workouts.

Does anyone have of any personal experience with long term use taking preworkout once a week, or knows of any other posts/research articles that might provide insight into whether this is a safe practice, or will still lead to long term consequences?

If you are curious, I take C4, Hyde, and Wrecking Ball.

Thanks

If you are referring to pre works being laced with caffeine then yes. It has horrible effects on the body. Especially these MEGA doses of stims people take. Including hurting cortisol levels etc.

If you are talking about a pre workout geared towards goals with zero stims but with nitric boosters then no, it only helps. Stims aren’t your friend to use daily.

I got hooked on Pre-workout and I do feel I will forever suffer the side affects.

I took it as directed at first. Then I took it for a boost in just every day Life. Then I started taking it every day just cuz I craved that jittery feeling. Even just typing this makes me wish I had some.

I believe constant use running several years has given my anxiety and social issues. Seriously.

Stay away from that shit. Especially if you run AAS because you don't really need it anyways.

Thank you for the responses. FiEnD, that really blows, I'm sorry to hear that man. I hope your body recovers and hopefully you can train your brain to eventually go back to its normal stress state.

Roger rabbit, many years ago (during my newbie workout days) I remembered checking out nitric oxide supplements. I'm sure they are much healthier than dosing yourself with 606068 other stims like these other pre's, but I remember researching many articles that suggested prolonged exposure to above normal levels of NO in the body is a catalyst for arthritis progression. Have you heard anything about this? I'm unsure if there's a threshold dosage that causes these effects.

A quote from U.S National Library of Medicine pertaining to the role of above-normal NO in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis is below. To avoid possibly spreading false worry amongst users I must disclose that I do not know what data these experiments were based on (i.e. what dosage or duration of use was for the test subjects) :

"Nitric oxide (NO) has been shown to regulate T cell functions under physiological conditions, but overproduction of NO may contribute to T lymphocyte dysfunction. NO-dependent tissue injury has been implicated in a variety of rheumatic diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Several studies reported increased endogenous NO synthesis in both SLE and RA, and recent evidence suggests that NO contributes to T cell dysfunction in both autoimmune diseases. The depletion of intracellular glutathione may be a key factor predisposing patients with SLE to mitochondrial dysfunction, characterized by mitochondrial hyperpolarization, ATP depletion and predisposition to death by necrosis. Thus, changes in glutathione metabolism may influence the effect of increased NO production in the pathogenesis of autoimmunity."

Excluding their caffeine contents that’s A LOT of supps w unproven benefit, and youre asking about a FOUTH, it’s your wallet.

And if the pathogenesis was stretcheeeed a little further one could make the same claims about Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Co-enzymeQ bla, bla, bla and autoimmunity.

Haha fair, if you dig deep enough on the internet you'll believe literally everything causes cancer and anxiety.

What I am trying to start on this thread is for people to discuss personal experiences. Somewhere alone the lines of: 'I've been using xx pre, which contains xx supplements, xx times a week, for xx years, and haven't had any (or have had xx) side effects. Always appreciate hearing people's experiences who are much bigger supplement veterans than me or have been in the bodybuilding game for a long period of time (only about 8 years for me).

Also with respect to the your comment on the pre's I take. I've accumulated these over the years from promotions on other supplements (since I only take pre once a week these are building up in my drawer). I definitely don't take these all at once.

What pre do you take? I do like Roger's idea of sticking to the basics (i.e. NO).

I have one story that I'd like to share. I've been in the gym for over 20 years and have seen the pwo market grow as I did. Ive used a bunch of it over the years but one brand stands out.

N.O. Explode. Took as recommended. I shit my brains out from it, like someone spiked my coffee with eye drops. It smelled like burning hair as well when it came out. Freaked me the fuck out.

Anyone want some almost new pwo powder? One serving used, I promise!

My opinion is most(if not all) pwo supps are complete trash that carry significant health risks. My Docs attest some of my health issues came from the daily consumption of pwos.
As they stated it's not a good thing to continually stress your cardiovascular system like pwos do. Very similar to cocaine use in their words.
As far as Nitric Oxide is concerned arginine is one of the few supps all my docs have given the green light on.
Just my opinion but I'd avoid pwos.

Same here. Didn't notice the funky smell, probably a good thing.
The niacin flush was uncomfortable too.

i wound up giving my barely used container to a former coworker. That was years ago and was the last time i ever messed around with any pre workout powders.

How much caffeine/day is over kill if no other stims are used? I just drink coffee with the occasional bang.

Coffee has many benefits. Including research into helping keep Alzheimer’s away.

I think it’s more about the concentration versus how much daily so to speak.

Taking in small dosages through day such as the case with coffee versus say a pre workout with 600mg at once or a bang with 300mg plus the other ingredients is a big difference and the effects/stress it has on the body.

Makes sense, thanks man

I've been working on getting off the PWO. I was doing 2 scoops a day, now I just do 1. I only drink one cup of coffee in the morning. Best workouts I ever did were in prison without any stims other than pooky and ray ray throwing the 25lb dumbells on ground.

Any of you guys ever switch from coffee to tea? I'm trying to save the teeth too.

I tried them all I'm a pre-work out whore, to this day nothing was ever as solid as the original DS craze, the original 1 MR by bpi sport was like crack lol, never did try Jackd 3D , there are some outrageous looking underground pre-work outs , I just go to my local suppliers, one supplier always had stuff in the back room you could not get but he moved on
