JACKSON - A 28-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in his home, where police seized four ounces of cocaine, a pound of marijuana, more than $8,000 in drug proceeds and numerous kinds of anabolic steroids, police said.

A week prior, township police arrested a 20-year-old man, also on drug charges, Capt. Steven Laskiewicz of Jackson police said. The arrests were made in connection to alleged drug sales in the Jackson area.

Joseph Maldanis, of South Dakota Avenue, was charged Tuesday with numerous offenses, Laskiewicz said in a release posted on Facebook. The charges included possession of cocaine in excess of four ounces, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of marijuana in excess of one pound with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of hypodermic syringes with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives and police officers found numerous anabolic steroids in varying quantities in Maldanis's home, Laskiewicz said. Among the array, authorities found substances suspected to be Boldenone, Trenbolone, Drostanolone, Testoviron and Oxymetholone. Anabolic steroids are synthetic versions of the male sex hormone, testosterone.

Maldanis was processed and lodged in the Ocean County jail.

About a week before Maldanis's arrest, Jackson police apprehended 20-year-old Thomas Hubert in a Bethel Church Road home.

On March 29, Hubert was charged with possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of marijuana in excess of one ounce with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of alprazolam and cyclobenzaprine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Laskiewicz said.

Alprazolam is more commonly known as Xanax or Niravam. Cyclobenzaprine, a type of muscle relaxer, is the generic name for Fexmid and Amrix.

In addition to the drugs, Laskiewicz said authorities seized from the Bethel Church Road home $6,000 in drug proceeds, packaging materials, a scale and a 2006 Volkswagen GTI.

Hubert was processed and released on a summons pending a future court appearance, Laskiewicz said.
