Making the switch to powerlifting, Gobuckeyes 2017 log

I weighed in at 216.9 this morning. I weighed almost 250 at Christmas time. I'm starting to look really good, definition is starting to come thru on my abs and my back. I'm starting to crave food tho sometimes, like the last 2 nights I've binged on peanut butter bc I was craving it like a crack addict.

I did overhead press today, 3x3 190. I might have to change the order of my days tho bc I deadlift on Thursday and it's killing my legs for today. Which really doesn't matter a lot but it does when I'm trying to press almost 200 overhead and my legs feel like jello.
 
Squats!!! I'm sad tho now that it's over. Next week is a deload week so it will be 2 weeks bf I squat any heavy weigh, oh well lol.
I did manage 2x1 and I actually did 2 reps on my last set at 405. I felt pretty awesome, my form looked good and I hit depth. Last time I tried 405 I hurt myself so this is an accomplishment. Of course after I was done, some young punk came in and started half repping 405 with knee wraps, some kind of suit, he looked like he was ready for battle lol. I wanted to yell at him and tell him to go lower but it's not my place. I just laughed at him and walked away.
 
Well today was suppose to be an off day. But since I'm switching deadlifts to Friday, I took today to come in and practice my squat form. I only worked up to 185, then did some leg presses, calf work, hamstring curls, cardio. Didn't press to hard at all. My arms look like a winged chicken lol I thought they pointed down but they point more backwards than anything. I love took video from ever angle, and I wasn't happy with my depth. So I really worked on gettting low. I love squats but God do they hurt lol hitting depth is a mother fucker.

Wait until you play with knee wraps. I had a hard time hitting depth with 475 on my back. It's strange with all the wrap material at the back of your knee.

Yea I haven't invested in a pair of those yet. Just a pair of knee sleeves right now and those help out with a spring out of the bottom.

I actually do. I like the ease of them. All I gotta do is slip them on and off. Maybe pull them up every once in awhile. Wraps look like a pain in the ass lol

They are a pain. I'm dying to use them again though. I'm thinking about donating Saturday morning to work in my wrapping techniques and how I like them. I want to get a moderate load on me and figure out what seems to work best. Once I'm happy with what I'm doing I'm going to get some more heavy work in. I want 500# more than Pussy right now...

I want to get a moderate load on me and figure out what seems to work best. Once I'm happy with what I'm doing I'm going to get some more heavy work in. I want 500# more than Pussy right now...

I feel ya. I want to hit my PR now! But I know it takes time and practice. I just never realized how much form mattered to this shit.
I spend so much time now just practicing my form or watching videos of correct lifting form.

You can goof off with form to a point but it's a safety issue with big weight. I'm getting worse as I go. I'm to the point where I'm ready for war even under 135# bench, everything is dealt with like I was going for a Max. I figure if I make good habits they will only help to push me forward as I go.

I obsess about my setup on deads, chest up and lower back nice and straight. I'm not sure if it helps off the ground but I get way more help from my back when I lockout. My lats kind of take over at the top, I can feel them spread out when engaged when I set up like that.

One thing I'm not into yet is using a belt in the bench. I see some big guys use them but I'm not there yet.

The PR chasing is cool, I'm so close to maxing out again myself. It's been about a year so I'm wicked excited.

I'm the same. I approach every lift like it's a PR. I have a mental check list of cues I go thru. I try to do every lift the exact same way every time so it becomes automatic. Yea I haven't used a belt for bench either. I might try some day just to see if I like it.
 
205 overhead press, check. Only 20 off my goal for the year. It went up surprising easy too. I think switching overhead press day to today and deadlifts tomorrow helped. My legs didn't feel like jello this time. I weighed in at 218 also, I've been hovering around here for a couple weeks now bc my diet has fallen off. I've been eating a lot of Cheryl's cookies. Damn there good!!
 
Had probably one of my best workouts. I deadlifted 430 3x1 and I actually pulled 3 on my last set. So I might have been sand bagging on my starting weight for deadlifts. The weight felt light too. My legs didn't shake or anything. It felt pretty awesome to pull it 3 times with no straps.

On a down note, my car broke down on the side of the highway on the way home. I own a Saab and had a hard time finding a shop to even fix it. Pretty sure it's going to cost $600-700 to fix bc I have a couple things wrong with it bf it even broke. I think it's the alternator. But I'm broke ,so I might have to cash out some of my 401k to pay to fix it. Or put the title up as collateral for a small loan. Fuck my life.
 
Don't touch your 401k. Worst decision you'll make this decade.

If you can use the title as collateral that would be a much smarter route to take. Do not undermine your compounding interest.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just kinda fucked right now. I'm already looking for a 2nd job bc we r slow right now and we need extra cash. So this happened at the worst time possible. It figures I pull the most weight I ever have and I'm not enjoying it like I would bc this shit is stressing me out.

I'm just glad next week is my deload week. Bc I probably won't be able to make it to the gym, so I'll have to use the one where I live, and it sucks. They have dumbells up to 50, just a flat bench lol, a universal workout machine, and some cardio equipment.
