Meditation

So I've been practicing meditation for years - helps to keep me stress free, focused and in control of things.

Usually manage to find 30-60 minutes a day to just "sit", eyes closed, deep breathing..

This time of year you can find me in the early morning, usually on a rock, or table at the beach, just breathing it all in and letting go...

It's a pretty awesome feeling...

Any other meditators out there...?

I haven't meditated in years. I used to meditate when I was in the Army. Definitely helped me focus and relieve some stress. I have been saying I was going to get back into it. I need to.

Since you have been meditating for a year. Are you close to opening your 3rd eye yet?

Lol...

No. I've been doing this for at least a decade, and even monks that have spent their lives meditating rarely achieve "nirvana"

Its harder than you think to actually shut your thoughts off...

I can say that I've learned quite a few things about my mind and body.. I can focus intensely and block out distractions, I can drop feelings of stress, frustration, anger, depression in minutes and they're gone - no dwelling on them like most people...

But no third eye action lol

Ever seen From Beyond? This homeboy opened his third eye and look what happened to him.

My wife does a lot of meditating and manifestation stuff. She's been getting a lot of stuff done since she started.

I consume copious amounts of caffeine and I also get stuff done. I've calmed down a lot this past year too and have always felt in control of my emotions. But maybe I could achieve a brain penis through humming my pineal gland into its next star of evolution.

Everyone meditates differently. Some people can relax while doing another activity. Some relax best when they sit down and meditate like you do. Either way, dedicating some time to yourself each day is a very beneficial thing to do.

ive explored meditation. the only real times I have "scheduled" for that is shortly after waking and always before going to bed ill take some time to wind down and think about nothing. I also use visualization techniques, but I'm not an expert on either and sometimes I forget my keys.
ideally, meditation, like some other things, are practiced techniques for everyday life. mindfully is how you should walk through life and your thoughts should be focused. mediation, is to some extent, practicing and training your brain for that. be here now, because if you aren't here, youre nowhere... or something to that extent :).
for me, running is a meditation of sorts. I think you could extend that into lifting depending how focused you are.

a good book I read years ago ill just throw out there

This is something I'm becoming interested in. High stress career lends itself to things like this... Is it actually as simple as just sitting down, controlling breathing and shutting off thoughts?

I was watching a Joe Rogan video today that talked about his experiences with sensory deprivation tanks... It was very intriguing. Not something I'd probably want to do but very cool to learn about.

I've read every book by him, and a bunch of other mindfulness authors..

It's true. Very hard to actually live in the moment. Think about it.. How often are you completely and utterly focused on only one thing?

When you drive, are you thinking about work, or your kids, or listening to the radio, or thinking about the gym, or money?

The same can be said for during your workouts, or playing with your kids... If you think about, or are distracted by anything else, you're not being mindfully in the moment...

Even during sex-are you thinking about other things? Even just thinking about not orgasming too soon takes you out of the moment..

It's super difficult to be that Zen focused on something.. But when you can, it's amazing.

It is really as simple as that... Try it with real dedication... Just focusing on your breath, feeling it move in past your nostrils and out over your lips... It's crazy how hard it is to do only that without thinking about other shit...

I remember my first few times - instead of just feeling my breath I was thinking about making sure I breath, and then I startedto think about not falling asleep... And suddenly I had stopped focusing on my breath at all.. Lol

Its tough but when you can do it, and transfer it to other aspects of your life...

My buddy is on a retreat right now 10 days no talking and technology just meditation

That's awesome! And it's so eye opening to see how much around you, you don't even notice or take for granted when you remove speech, and other tech and distractions..

I go to a Buddhist meditation center twice a week. I've been going to this center for over three years now. There's a lot beautiful temples out here in Colorado. :) Snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking are also my escape and a sort of meditation for me as well.
