Membrane Filters Reused?

I'm researching homebrewing for the first time and had a question about these membrane filters.

I'm aware that this is used to filter the finishing product, but when buying them, it says in the title "disposable" so my question is
Can you use this filter only once and then throw the entire thing away?
or is there just a filter piece that I can replace for cheap instead of replacing the whole thing?

Yes, there are vacuum filter units where you just replace the round, flat filtering membrane.
Some even have sturdy stainless steel housings.
As usual, make sure the replacement membranes are cheap/available to you before buying.

Throw away filters have a set amount of ml they can filter before they're no good.
How many ml do you advice to filter at the most, before discarding?
Does the recommendation vary from brand to brand?

I use whatman cr's with glass prefilter and they're rated for 500ml. The most I've ever put through them is about 400. Each brand should have its own rating. Typically they're 250, 500 or 1000.

use as indicated. also it wont be sterile if you tuck it away for use later on. if its the type you sterilize and then add a new sterile filter then sure, if thats what it was made for and you can do it properly. if new to it maybe stick with disposables for now?

Okay sounds like a plan

If you are able to sterilize it you can buy a 300ml buchner filter with 500ml flask pretty cheap. No need in going for the larger ones as the filter membrane is only good. Just make sure it is a 47mm filter disk and you can buy 100 47mm sterile .22 filter disks for $100 or if you have an autoclave you can buy unsterile for around 30 and put them in an autoclave bag(just make sure the disks are autoclave safe)

I wouldn't trust buchner filters for sterility.
Liquid can, and ofter gets below the membrane no matter how well you pre-wet it and you make sure vacuum doesn't break.

I would only thrust reusable filters where the housing TIGHTLY hold the membrane on both sides, usually with gaskets on both sides of the membrane edges for a tight seal. Usually they unscrew open.
