Methods to Increase Appetite

I felt like making a list of things that help appetite as it’s something I struggle with.

Drugs that increase appetite

1) Ghrelin agonists (mk677, Anamorelin, GHRP-6, etc) - These drugs bind to the Ghrelin receptor and agonize it similarly to Ghrelin, the hunger hormone. These Drugs are also Growth hormone secretocouges. I’ve used mk677 before and I can attest to its appetite increase, I felt like I hadn’t eaten in days and food wasn’t satiating.

2) Serotonin Dopamine and Histamine Antagonists (Mirtazapine, Seroquel, Cyproheptadine) - Many antidepressants, antipsychotics, and antihistamines increase appetite for many people, although I can’t recommend someone mess with their brain chemistry as it can cause mood changes, I can say that Mirtazapine greatly increased my appetite and I take it daily as an antidepressant. Other added benefit is increased sleep quality. I can also add trazodone to this list it gives me major munchies and then I knock out.

3) Hormones (Testosterone, Megestrol, EQ) I’ve never tried megestrol or EQ but many say they greatly increase appetite. I can say that with my short run of Test, my appetite was increased.

Non Drug Appetite stimulants

1) Exercise - This is a no brainer, you work out, you burn calories, you become hungry

2) Sex - Idk if it happens to everyone but I get really hungry after sex, some close friends I’ve asked say this too

3) Stretching your stomach - It’s hard at first but you have to get used to eating more than when your stomach Would normally feel full. Eat a little more every time and your stomach will stretch. In the long run you will be able to eat more food, and the small amounts you ate before wouldn’t be as satiating.

Marijuana if you're ok with using it. I personally am not a fan but it definitely helps with hunger. Also sprints would give me crazy hunger. Much more than any other exercise.
Marijuana is a hit or miss for me hunger wise. Sometimes I have a good time and most times I’m just waiting for it to be over.

Ghrp 6 gave me a gyno lump that I will need surgery for. It has an estrogenic effect. But the list looks good, may have to give mirtaz a try

Swimming. Particularly in cold water. Better, freediving.

Your body has to burn more calories per minute to maintain its body temperature the colder the water. Since water removes body heat something like 7-10x faster than the equivalent temperature of air, your body must burn 7-10x as many calories to maintain its body temperature in water verse air. Combine that with the aerobic/anaerobic dual stimulus of moving against the resistance of water and you have a massive calorie burning activity, which is followed by a massive increaee in hunger afterwards.

Look up the Compendium of Physical Activity and find “skindiving, fast” (aka Freediving), has one of the highest caloric burn ratings of any physical activity known to man, and that is not inclusive of water temperature which has a significant additional impact.

Simply put, the more calories you burn doing something, the hungrier you will be afterwards. As a long time freediver i can attest to almost insatiable appetite after several hours in cold water.

Cardio, it will fire up your appetite especially HIIT. Don't resort to drugs right away, you can train to acquire healthy appetite.

I thought I have a huge appetite before then I tried eating clean and oh boy it was an eye opener. I couldn't even eat 2500 calories of chicken and rice to start, I had to learn to love it. Food full of saturated fats and sweets, it's easy to pound 5k calories easy. Clean food, you have to train stomach to handle it.

Good luck.

In the morning I tend to have room-temperature water right when I wake up.
In about 15min. Im so desperate for my morning breakfast. Warm water in the morning helps your stomach to "wake up", and you are hungry in no time.

You stole the drugs that increase appetite from somewhere, unless you're smarter than you seem. This AI shit needs to be regulated into oblivion.

Guys. Bumping this thread to get some bro science input on drugs or secrrtagogues that would be Ok to use w kids.

got a pre-pubescent kid who’s not eating sufficiently over a year and not gained a single pound yet growing in height. Muscle tissue wasting

saw doctors. Got bloods done. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Tried a few Rx from docs: cyproheptadine, clonodine. i have read about mitrazapine but didn’t quite want to put the kid on an antidepressant full time , unless this can be dosedas needed. (Similar to how Trazodone can be used as a sleep aid - I’ve had it prescribed years ago to help overcome inability to sleep after long flights).

what do you guys think can help, chemically or supplement wise?

i would like to exhaust options before venturing into endocrinology and any doctor-supervised HGH treatment.

sleep hygiene is on point, nutrition is dialed in. Just the appetite is not there. Kid will eat and “feels full“ after very little. Almost as if opposite of me, and I take tirz so my stomach tells the brain it’s full; need something that does the reverse , but safe for kids jot just from sides but wouldn’t tinker with too many parts of the body.

any advice is much much appreciated.

Protein shakes, made with whole milk. Add some extra chocolate or strawberry syrup into them. I would only say "take drug xyz" if it's been discussed with the kids doctor first.
Vigorous exercise will encourage a good appetite, maybe a team sport with his/her friends?

thank you ! Syrup is a good idea. Maybe add heavy cream also. Reminds me of the Arnold shakes he outlined in his book

Any meds id run by the doc first. But I like to study the options in advance of discussions because I will read up on studies (if any ) and familiarize myself w the sides/ mechanism of action etc.
