Midnight snacks, worth it or not?

So a young buddy of mine (19, 5' 7", 215 lbs natty) is on his way to being a good body builder. And one thing is forsure this guy can fuckin eat.
Anyways when he is bulking he sets 2 alarms in the middle of the night to wake up and eat his meal preps.
Does anyone else do this with success?
Pros? Cons?
Me being a poor eater myself it sounds like a good idea, but to interupt your slept cycle to force feed extra calories might be hurting his gains.
Any thoughts?

I would value, as a natty, uninterrupted sleep for 8 hours. At his age, he is likely to be able to sleep entirely through the night without having to urinate.

Maybe a peanut butter sandwich before bed woth milk and 2.5 mg of melatonin would be better.
