Training up to my next meet which will be a push/pull on January 31st. I'm 48 and have been dropping weight to compete at 181 but have decided to skip the big weight drop this time and instead compete at 198. Most recent meet was February when I benched 374 and pulled 524. Looking to top those numbers this time around.
I have had a couple of hernia surgeries and have an existing high hernia as well as a couple of arthroscopic knee surgeries in my past that keep me from squatting competitively at least for the time being.
Actually started meet training for the deadlifts a couple of weeks ago. I'm running the Coan deadlift program. I' ve been running a 6 week bench program based on Prilepin percentages that ended yesterday and will be testing my max next Friday. I will then begin the Bulgarian method for benching up to the meet which will have me working up to a bench max 6 times per week.
I have run this program for 5 weeks leading up to a meet and felt I probably left some pds. on the platform by not running it longer. My last meet I ran it for 8 weeks which turned out to be too long as my shoulders were spent by meet day. So I will be running it for 6 weeks pre meet this time.
I train in my basement gym and will train every day up to the meet beginning next week but with the exception of deadlift day each week none of my workouts last more than 45 minutes.
A somewhat soft 195 pds. today. Hoping to be a much harder and strong 198 on meet day.
