Training up to my next meet which will be a push/pull on January 31st. I'm 48 and have been dropping weight to compete at 181 but have decided to skip the big weight drop this time and instead compete at 198. Most recent meet was February when I benched 374 and pulled 524. Looking to top those numbers this time around.

I have had a couple of hernia surgeries and have an existing high hernia as well as a couple of arthroscopic knee surgeries in my past that keep me from squatting competitively at least for the time being.

Actually started meet training for the deadlifts a couple of weeks ago. I'm running the Coan deadlift program. I' ve been running a 6 week bench program based on Prilepin percentages that ended yesterday and will be testing my max next Friday. I will then begin the Bulgarian method for benching up to the meet which will have me working up to a bench max 6 times per week.

I have run this program for 5 weeks leading up to a meet and felt I probably left some pds. on the platform by not running it longer. My last meet I ran it for 8 weeks which turned out to be too long as my shoulders were spent by meet day. So I will be running it for 6 weeks pre meet this time.

I train in my basement gym and will train every day up to the meet beginning next week but with the exception of deadlift day each week none of my workouts last more than 45 minutes.

A somewhat soft 195 pds. today. Hoping to be a much harder and strong 198 on meet day.12614.edit.jpg

12/6

BB curls 15x95, 12x105, 10x115, 8x125, 6x135, 5x145
preacher curls 3x10 95
dumbbell curls 12x40, 10x50, 7x60
face pulls 12x90, 10x100, 10x110
ab pulldowns 15x110, 15x120, 12x130

JohnnyBallz has been posting arm pictures which gave me serious bicep envy so I did way more bicep work today than I normally do or will be doing going forward.

If JB doesn't stop posting those pictures I'm climbing on a plane, woefully inadequate arms and all, flying south and kicking his ass. :)

Will be out of down on business next Monday through Friday but they have a decent gym there and I think I will be able to work my schedule to make it every day. If not I should only miss one session.

12/7

Leg Press 5 light sets 10-12
leg curls 2x10 90, 9x100
pull throughs 2x12 130, 2x10 150
GHR's 20, 19

My left knee has bothered me for the last couple of days so skipped squats in favor of leg presses, top set was 10x490 just enough to get some blood flowing.

Hamstrings were fried by the end of the session and knee felt better afterwards than it did going in so I will call this session a win.

Thanks dnoyez.

Well my friends pre cycle blood work came back with total test at 275. Very disappointing given that the only reason he has stayed off this long was to avoid shutting down his natural production. Turns out there isn't much to shut down. Live and learn.

12/10

deads 3x295, 2x365, 1x425, 2x470
speed deads 6x3 385

3 circuits
stiff leg deads 8x235
bent rows 8x235
underhand lat pulldowns 8x210

Week 3 of Coan deadlift program. Top set was an easy double at 470. Speed sets were triples at 385 and moved well. No good mornings due to hotel gym. In the past this week has been a good indicator of how the rest of the program will go. Hopefully, that holds true this go around as today was a pretty good session using an extremely stiff bar.

Thanks dnoyez.

I'm at a conference with a hotel and golf course. The gym is for members of the golf course but hotel guests can use it. It was still almost all of the weight they had two 45's, two 35's,two 25's and a 2 1/2 on each side. They had the rubber coated thicker plates which are thicker than the steel ones. Looked like there was about 700 on the bar.

That pretty awesome all the same. Can't wait to learn from your experience. Thanks MP!
