Muscle imbalance

Kinda an odd growth issue going on. My left side is developing faster and larger than my right. I am right handed. Namely traps and tri's.

I do no barbell workouts, only dumbells or hammer strength machines that work the sides independently. And cables. Shrugs are done with dumbells, or a sit down shrug machine that each side works independently. All the weights are equal per side.

Opinions?

Read the title and immediacy you thought try dumbells but looks like you got that down.

Focus on really contracting the muscles on your right side. I have to really focus on squeezing my right side and getting a good pump.
Although my right is dominant I feel my left arm is slightly larger. Something I'm working on also.

I started dumbells about 3 months ago because I could see the weirdness.

The only thing I can think of is "rope to face" and I'm pulling more with my left?

I had/have a weird imbalance too. Bicep on my left is bigger than my right but tricep on right is bigger than my left it's not as noticeable as it was:eek: I'm ambidextrous but probably use right side slightly more on some tasks. Really concentrating on the movement on each under developed muscle really helped alot.

Do you see a chiropractor? Getting some adjustments done could make a world of difference to level out those muscle imbalances. Also regular deep tissue massage and myofascial release work. It's important to have everything opened up and allow for growth.

If you haven't been getting massage done regularly, it may be best to combine it with some Graston therapy initially to really break up scar tissue and adhesions.

I have had similar issues which were corrected with the above mentioned therapies. It's important to put alot of time and effort into soft tissue work and recovering, as you're spending such a large amount of time stressing the muscle and causing damage (for growth)

Everyone has imbalances, and is usually the non dominant side that is bigger - if you're right handed, the left side is bigger.

My theory, and idk if there's any science behind it, is that your brain has to send a stronger signal to the non dominant side to get it to work as hard as the dominant side...

So that makes the non dominant side actually "fire" better, more fibre recruitment, better contractions, etc...

Idk.. Just my. 02 and most likely not the reason, but that's what I go with lol:rolleyes:

Yeah...
Thinking about alternating shrugs instead of lifting both sides at once. Dunno if that will help? Seems like I could concentrate better possibly.

The whole thing started off, my wife was popping a zit on my back, "this one side is huge...but this other side looks normal"...thanks baby. Now I have a complex.

Plate shrugs work awesome like that. I'd just throw in a couple extra for the side your wanting to grow more each set.

I have the same problem. I'm right handed but my left bicep is bigger and my right pec is bigger than my left. Finally getting the left pec growing to match the right but having hell with the biceps. I switched to dumbbells and use 5 lbs more on the smaller side while trying to squeeze a few reps in on the smaller muscle. Like was mentioned also really concentrate on contracting the smaller muscle more so than the opposite side.

Just finishing tri/bi at the gym. Noticing this has me all fucked up. Nothing feels smooth any more cause I'm focusing so hard. Left side is definitely stronger.

Wondering what I should do? Nothing? Add a right hand weight or reps?

Just looking in the mirror, my left trap is 3/8-1/2 taller. Delts are more defined, almost like the difference between 15% BF and 10%.

Maybe do EVERYTHING single armed so I can focus better? Which seems like it would take the fun out of the workouts.
