My competition prep

Oh, wait, I forgot that Flounder and Mands decided I have no credibility....the above formula must not work.

Fortunately, for all the guys I try and help, I take their opinion w/ a tiny gain of salt.

Also, legs should not be trained for 14 days before show. They will show the best separation if you rest them (keep doing cardio to 10 days out).

The hardest training you will do during these last weeks is posing. Start at least a month out, holding each mandatory for 10 seconds. By 10 days out, you should be able to hold each pose for at least 60 seconds and make it look easy (smile). This will also help to harden you up. Don't forget to work on your 1/4 turns.

You could have the best phsique on stage, but if you get tired and lax, your stomach hangs out etc., you will lose.

I have seen guys spend hours and hours on their routine. It does not matter, because if they are not in posing shape, they won't make the night show/get to do their routine.

The mandatories from the morning pre-judging are what counts.

Now, if you win your class, you will be up w/ the other weight class champs, so don't go crazy after prejudging.

Keep running a tape in you head, visualizing thousands of people cheering, and then you name is the last called (IE you won) what will that feel like?

DD
I don't know whom is assisting you with contest preparation at present or previously BUT your on track to be very competitive if not win outright.

But rest assured u won't "have to" be willing to die, use hypermetabolic compounds, or do like the Germans do to WIN!

If u choose to use diuretics do so no earlier than the last week before the show and combine a thiazides diuretic like HCTZ at 25mg QD and Aldactone at 50mg QD the combination "counterbalances" the side effects hypo/hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis/allalosis and tolerance which occur if used in isolation. PS I'm not German!

Regards
Jim

For shits and giggles, I removed Jim from my iggy list. Do not take his advice. I seriously doubt he has ever prepped a champion. On the other hand, I have a proven track record. I prepped a guy who won the North Americans, 3 other local show winners, and the Texas State champion. I have done 13 shows, and I made every mistake possible (low carb diets, not enough cardio, etc) How many shows have you won, Jim, how many guys have you prepped,or are you just bench coaching? Use the diuretic program and advice I have given you.

The potasium sparing/Spiro must start 10 days out. Don't stack it w/ a thiazide until you are at 100 mgs!!! If something goes wrong, you won't know why. You NEED to stick w/ the program. Jims advice to start by stacking is horrible advice.
You need to know exactly how each diuretic affects you, and that is why you introduce and titrate according to the schedule.

I feel like shit. I just had a carb refeed yesterday and doubled up on carbs each meal, probably hit about 500-600 grams total. I started looking pretty full and solid late in the day. I started the winny a little early, and hit 100mg of water based to the shoulder. umm yea...fuck that. I think I'm going to be drinking this one, LOL. As for cardio, 40 min sessions is my limit. I use cardio strictly as a means to keep the metabolism firing and do not overdo it. I've done the double sessions before and all it does it catablize me and make me look like shit. I'm very similar in George Farrah's approach to training. Pericles, I really appreciate the input on this log, but my plan is to use no diuretics. I'm not going to use any fat burners other than ephedra tabs and black coffee before the gym, no clen or T-3 for this guy. I recently backed off on all the eggs and dropped my portions to 7 whites/1 whole egg for morning and night before bed. I've been out of protien powder for the past week, and the week prior I had to use some cheap shit from Wal-mart. When I set out to do this show I had different goals in mind. My goal is to look like one of the greats from the Golden era, and I did not want to put this in the way of my family. As tired and run down as I've been lately, I have not neglected my family and have still taken my son plenty of places. Today we are going fishing again, its beautiful outside today!! I have seen what bodybuilding can do to people, what it can take from them if they let it. So with that being said, man I'm really just going to do the best I can with what I have. No more gear, I'm not buying anything else. Trying to bring the cost of my groceries down to $100-150 a week. Time to go hit my back and abs, peace

I feel like shit. I just had a carb refeed yesterday and doubled up on carbs each meal, probably hit about 500-600 grams total. You should do this every 5 days. Then titrate carbs down to 250, so 550, 450,350, 300 250. Trust me, I have seen so many doing wht you are doing (over dieting)s I started looking pretty full and solid late in the day. If you are eating only a 100 grams of carbs a day, then yes, 40 minutes is your max. But like I said, you need to increase food, increase cardio, and increase gearI've done the double sessions before and all it does it catablize me and make me look like shit. I'm very similar in George Farrah's approach to training. Pericles, I really appreciate the input on this log, but my plan is to use no diuretics.Sure, buddy, I understand, just realize that decision will greatly reduce striations because there is water between the muscle and skin. You have a lot of muscle, so hopefully that will help you against guys who did everything I suggested. I'm not going to use any fat burners other than ephedra tabs and black coffee before the gym, no clen or T-3 for this guy. As tired and run down as I've been lately, I have not neglected my family and have still taken my son plenty of places. Good. That is the reason I don't compete anymore When I was competing, I put it ahead of everything. Remember, family comes first. If I knew you had a wife and kids I would advise you to NOT to compete,e lol. Today we are going fishing again, its beautiful outside today!! I have seen what bodybuilding can do to people, what it can take from them if they let it.Yes, you are correct. It is an insane and dangerous sport. When I competed, every girl left me by the 4 week mark. So with that being said, man I'm really just going to do the best I can with what I have. No more gear, I'm not buying anything else. Trying to bring the cost of my groceries down to $100-150 a week. Time to go hit my back and abs, peace
I will be rooting for you, my friend

Thanks so much brother!!! I'm giving it everything I have!! And I def agree with you on overdieting. 90% of guys are all going to have the same look, totally depleted and flat, probably looked better 2 wks out!! You know, one thing I've done (not purposely) is been very spontaneous with cardio at times. I've had a couple wks where I've nailed the shit out of it 4-5x/wk, then a few days where I wasn't able to do any due to time constraints and work. I honestly think its only helped me. My body has not gotten into that rut of being used to it and run down as bad.

Having a family and getting ready for a show....wow, that is a dicey situation. In terms of size and symmetry, you are excellent.

If I did another show, my family would leave me, I was a self centered arrogant prick, a psychopath when prepping (even had my girlfriend smuggling stuff for me from Mexico). When I won the show I tried 3 years in a row to win (didn't even make the night show first time out, then placed 2nd). When I finally won I said "thank God, now I can stop".

Today, my family is everything to me....except I love my 5 year old son more than my wife, so I guess I am still an asshole[:o)]

Be totally dieted down by the 12th day out. Days 14-11, keep carbs down at around 100 grams. Start carbing up 10 days out. start at 350, 400, 450, 500,then 550. Hold 550 steady and monitor your progress, increase if need be.

I ate 600-700 my last 2 days before the show, but I was on the full Montey diuretic program. You probably don't want to go over 600 carbs.

Also, get and take as much nolva as you can, it will help w/ water retention. Take 60 mgs a day last week, more if you have it.

I have arimadex, but not going to use it until last 4 wks since I dont have much left. Would nolvadex be more beneficial? The last show I did I used exemestaine and it kicked ass!! I'm not quite as worried about aromization since I am using masteron, but will still throw in an anti e towards the end as a safe measure. I need to get a fucking paycheck, I've switched to some other BS protien powder and I know that shit is throwing a layer of water on my abs. I'm going back to Dymatize Elite as soon as I get paid. I feel awful pretty much 24/7 now, no energy at all, depressed, all I want to do is fucking sleep but I cant fall asleep. So I'm guessing this is a sign I'm on the right track!! LOL

trained chest/biceps/abs, cardio today. Strength starting to drop, I managed to incline bench 245/12 on my last set and it felt like the earth, then to pec deck machine, cable crosses, and finished with 100 pushups (as many as I could do at a time until I hit 100, took me 3 sets I think) I did a quick 20 min on stairclimber, then returned to gym this evening to blast my abs and another 40 min on stairclimber. At this point I'm wondering if I should start cycling a small amount of healthy fats into the diet, maybe once every 3-4 days or so, hit some extra virgin olive oil or something before bed. I'm throwing an avocado in with my egg whites tonight, just a test to see if I dont look harder the next couple days from giving my body a little healthy fat. This photo was taken a few days ago, sitting right at 223 lbs. I'm thinking I have about 10-12 more lbs to go from this point

Getting leaner, to the point now where any little thing I do throws my look one way or the other, thats a sign I'm getting closer. Trained delts and triceps today, still fairly strong on the delts, throwing up 90 lb db's for 12 reps still. Triceps not bad, still working with 115 lbs on tri pressdowns, and did some dips today as well. WAs not going to do anymore cheat meals but I had one tonight- b/ I was looking a little depleted. At this point its just taking it day to day

last night I experimented with a fat load, I had 4 regular scrambled eggs rather than just whites, and a steak. I woke up feeling about 100x better and looking much fuller. I am getting pretty good abs lately, but I think they aren't pushing against the skin like they could from the lack of dietary fats the past 2 months. Ok, so the plan is to start rotating in about 50 grams of fat every 3-4 days to try to fill out slowly. Once I get to the 10-14 day out mark, I will consume healthy fats again everyday coming from cashews and olive oil, and a little steak here and there. My bodyweight is still 220 here, just under 6 wks out

When I started this I told myself I would not put it before my family. So here is my issue, I'm probably going to be spending around $300-$400 between entry fee, NPC membership, gas money, pro tan, and possibly a hotel. Honesty I'm pissed off, the NPC card is $100 now, and its not even good for a full annual year, it expires at the end of 2013. I was recently told by a girl at my gym that she was asked to be a judge, and when she asked the promoter and head judge "Dont I need to go on a few shows as a judge apprentice?" His reply was "dont worry about that" Why dont they just pick some yahoo out of the audience to judge for Christ sake!! We spend alot of $$, time, effort, and suffer for these God damn things, and this is how judging is done now? No fucking thanks, its become a God damn joke. I am not dumping anymore $$ into this shit. I'm going to use that $$ for my family vacation the week after the show, fuck the show, I'm dropping out. HOWEVER, I do have a magazine shoot coming up in 3 wks, a major publication. I'm dieting like hell for that and going to look my best. As far as the show, I just cant do it. The NPC has put a bad taste in my mouth, and really has for the past 10 yrs now. Its such a money making scheme now, and they rely on the competitors to profit, not the crowd. Give me a fucking break, I have to pay $10 for my wife to go to prejudging, and $30 for the night show. So here is the breakdown; NPC card- $100, show entry- $65, hotel-$80, gas- $50, pro tan- $20, wife entry fees- $40, food for after show- $20, yea close to $400. To go out there for about 2 minutes in prejudging (thats if there are any heavyweights even at the damn thing, which the past few yrs the turnout for heavy and superheavy has been shitty)

I dont know, I can handle knowing I partake in an expensive hobby, but when its right slap in your face that the competitors are what funds this shit and not the spectators anymore, its a real downer. Watching the cost of that NPC membership jump every year has quite frankly pissed me off. And that organization is deemed as a non-profit organization, the same category as the boy scouts. WTF does it give back to the competitors anymore? They hardly let you execute a fucking pose before cutting you off and going into the next, just to hurry you through the thing so they can get back to judging the 135 women figure bitches.

I am at the pinnacle of what I'm going to be with this. I cannot do any more. I cannot do anymore with this financially, time wise, drug wise, workout wise. I'm going 110% and the rest of my life is suffering. This will be my second magazine appearance. When I started this shit 17 yrs ago I was the kid who was up at midnight looking at magazines, I never thought I'd be in them someday. My goal has always been to look like one of the guys from the Golden era. Well stupid me has been too blind to realize I've done it!! I've done everything I'm going to do in bodybuilding and that's been through alot of suffering and going borderline nuts from it. 3 more wks to go until the shoot, still dieting hard as hell. Will continue my log until that point. Family first, I'm done with this shit(on this level)

It sounds like you have put your entire heart and soul into it. What does the plan look like three weeks out if I may ask?
