My story- Doctors Don't Know What is Wrong

You weren't super low, so I wouldn't expect vitamin D supplements to solve your issues. It's more about longterm health outcomes. BUT...you haven't verified that the supplement has actually raised your levels. Some people need big doses of vitamin D for whatever reason(s).

I see. I will make sure to get checked the next time I have the opportunity. I guess I assumed supplementation would raise to appropriate levels no matter what, considering the range is so large.

Another point I want to make is that in order to feel your absolute best...you really need to have everything optimized. So this means proper hormone levels, clean diet along with eliminating foods that you are sensitive to, proper sleep, limited or no alcohol/caffeine/drug intake, find and eliminate nutritional deficiencies, vitamin D levels, reduce inflammation, etc. etc.

Start with your diet and the gluten issue first, though.

I've wanted to try this, really. I might have to wait until summer, though. With school it is always something that sets me back.

I just hope in 3-6 months I am really able to notice a change and more importantly, being able to attribute it to eating gluten-free. Similar to the Vitamin D issue you mentioned above. The reason I hoped for a test is so I didn't have that issue. It's so difficult to keep things constant in your life. Especially with so much going on health-wise for me.

Have you had your testosterone levels checked since you started androgel?

Yes, I believe it is posted in my initial post. Any thoughts on whether I should continue it's usage?

you are acting like going gluten free is a super difficult thing or something, sheesh

If you had read you'd realize it will be difficult for me. Not for self-control issues but because I live in a fraternity house. We have a cook. She rarely cooks a meal without gluten. Before these health issues had risen I committed to a meal plan until summer with the house.

I've been doing it for a year now and it's not that difficult, in fact there are the benefits that it forces you to think about your food choices and avoid crap fast food places that might be too convenient otherwise

That is a good thought. Thank you for your input.

mate for your sleep try 3 to 5mgs of melatonin. I've had sleeping problems my whole life due to a congenital condition and this has worked for me for over 2 years now. Make sure you turn the lights off when you take it or it doesn't seem to work.

Thank you for the practical advice, sir. I'm glad this has helped you so much. It's hit or miss with me. Sometimes it works well. Other nights when my anxiety is bad I can't fall asleep and it wears off. Also, sometimes in the morning I am groggy for hours. That last bit doesn't happen to you at all.

On a side note, definitely doesn't seem to work for me either unless I take it in the dark. No doubt to the fact that melatonin is secreted naturally in your brain when it is dark.

I couldn't tell you if I felt groggy as this has been the norm for me my whole life due to my condition.

Shame it doesn't always work for you it has been a miracle for me. Occasionally I too wake up around 2am when it wears of and if it's critical I get my 7 hours I have a slurp of Benalyn chesty coughs original with diphenhydramine in it which I keep in my bedside drawer. Hardly ever tired in the day anymore but that first hour in the morning is hard. Small potatoes compared to living an ever perpetuating knackered daily life.

I'm glad you have such a good thing working for you. I wish it had the same effectiveness for me. Sometimes I don't feel refreshed after taking it either... But then again I never do. I think it's a good idea for me to visit a sleep center one of these days.

Um yea that was my next suggestion. Get tested for sleep apnea and ask meso member cubbieblue about a harder to detect form of apnea that he has.

I wasn't able to come up with much, myself. I think I may take on the challenge and start gluten-free next week. Maybe I can work my way around it at the fraternity house. I just want to feel better.

I assume the best way is to go gluten-free for a few months and then eat gluten to see if symptoms return?

Yea but I would get all of the testing out of the way before embarking on the diet. I would also cut out dairy and work on eating "real food" and limiting sugar intake.

Don't slack on getting your sleep looked into as well.

That means a waiting period, unfortunately. I just hoped since it is the best indication I wouldn't need tests. Dairy as well?

I won't slack. However, I have learned that hormones can cause sleep disorders. I will probably wait until I have optimized my lifestyle, as previously mentioned, then I will check into my sleep. It is too expensive to not have everything else optimized.

Celiac testing is a waste even one gets scoped. Majority of the time it is still.missed or dismissed. See this happen many times. Its about.commitment to.getting well.not a quick.fix..

That was going to be my next question. So even with extensive Celiac's testing the best way to know for sure is going gluten-free. I am definitely willing to put in the commitment.

I found when I eliminated gluten, that any other food sensitivities seemed to not be an issue anymore, I eat a ton of dairy products, milk, cheese, yogurt and have no problems with it, but I never touch wheat anymore

By removing the inflammatory food you are actually giving the intestinal mucosa time to heal. The inflammatory response can lead to intestinal hyperpermablity (leaky gut) which can make you body food intolerant to something different each day. The problem we are running into is not food allergies, but insensitivities which are not being picked up by normal blood test. I see this more and more becoming a silent epidemic which is fueling hidden inflammatory responses.

Well that is good to know. Thank you for your comment.

So what your saying is that the gluten intolerance is actually causing other food allergies, which obviously aren't being tested for in Celiac's Disease testing?

I know you have very limited information on me, but from what you have read how beneficial do you think eliminated gluten will be for me? It's hard for me to even tell if it is gluten.

I haven't been told not to. I did for a few days on my own accord, but noticed no difference. I might of kept up with it if it was doctor's orders, but I live in a fraternity house so it is very difficult to eat gluten-free.

It takes weeks for the negative effects of gluten to subside.

The deal with gluten is that it is decomposed into an opioid peptide, like morphine, during digestion. For reasons that are unknown, the effects of these substances are increasingly more powerful. One of the effects of opioid use is decline in testosterone.

Why in some cases of severe food allergies I will suggest Dr to use ldn which can chill out the immune system while i work on the gi tract properly

I did not know that. That is quite interesting. I will keep that in mind as I go through this process.

What is Idn?

Do both of you believe that I may have Gluten Intolerance or Sensitivity? That it is definitely worth it to try Gluten-Free? And possibly Dairy? Again, I know that my information is limited. Just looking for opinions.

I want to add that I have been experiencing Restless Leg Syndrome. When I sit and keep my legs still I feel very uneasy. This is mostly at night. Just thought I would mention that.

Just try the gluten and dairy free diet bro. Too much analysis paralysis going on here. If you want, I can send you a killer recipe for some gluten free vegan cupcakes. ;)
