Emotional arousal increases systemic fatigue, so if you want to make your workouts harder to recover from, 10/10 anger on each and every set will do it.
It's also mentally exhausting, how many times a week does your mind have to go to a dark place at the most during training? Once at the most is good enough for me, maybe for a high-intensity technique on deads or if I'm doing accommodating resistance on squats, but that's it. Any other time it's just more detriment than benefit.
There are only 2 suitable times for extreme emotional arousal during training: deadlift pr or 100+ % attempts (meet or mock meet conditions).
On a primal level, calmness during extreme circumstances is more compelling than going full retard during extreme circumstances. It's more fascinating when you look like you are waiting for a bus but are about to do some next level shit in a second or so...
Anyone remember Fedor in the PRIDE days?
Just waiting for a bus.
Absolutely true and one of the best training related posts I've seen on here.
