Opinions on spot work

I've identified that my rotator cuff muscles are weak and are contributing to my shoulder pain resulting in poor upper body workout performance.

Would it be wrong of me to stop my current exercise cycle and focus for a month or so on building rotator cuff strength and devolopment?
Of course I would do some maint. exercises so I dont atrophy.

Nothing wrong at all with taking a month off to fix a problem like that. In fact thats what most medical professionals would tell you to do.

I wouldnt stop working out just to focus on rotator work, but I would reduce your volume on upper body work. Then add in some rotator work ~3x per week to help build up your strength. Since its typically a neglected muscle group, your strength should in rotator movements should increase pretty quickly. Take it slow, though, as the last thing you want to happen is to damage a rotator.

It really depends on how much pain your having, because if you continue to work out and are in a lot of pain it will never heal.
If its just a little tender you should be able to work through it as Bob said.

Thanks Bob & Role.

My right rotator is not as flexible as my left, and give slight pain when stretched. I've read up on rotator isolating exercises and began as of thursday to include them in my sets, but i think you both are right, I'll back off on shoulder inclusive exercises and spend some time focusing on on strengthening and stretching the rotators.

Sounds also like a good time to focus on squats... :( %*&#$@
