Penalized by the government/ fucking Obama!

I had an employee that found out the hard way.

First, they will freeze your bank accounts and all lines of credit.

Then they will send a wage garnishment order to your employer and, in his case, garnish 100% of his earnings.

When you suddenly have no access to your money and you're essentially working for free, it tends to get your attention.

Then, you have to hire a tax lawyer just to get the wage garnishment order reduced from 100% to maybe 80-90%... Then you pay the lawyer.

He went from making around $1500 a week net, to taking home about $300-400. That went on for years until he had paid it back... Not to mention the dozens of times he had to go to the tax office.

Moral of the story: go to an accountant and get ahead of it before they get ahead of you. The longer you think you are getting away with it, the worse it is when they get around to you...

Oh Shit. Time to get that handled. Thanks for the wake up call.

Are they federal student loans? You do have a little bit of leeway with those if they're not federal, but I think they're not as hardcore even with the fed. I just paid mine off right before filing taxes this year.

The thing with the employee was rough... It was the equivalent of watching the government bend a guy over and fuck him in public sans lube. I didn't think that kind of shit really went down... I was very wrong.

The crazy part was, his son worked there as well and basically did the same shit. I could post pages of shit they attempted, and failed, to get away with.
The agency that is actually deducting from me is called PHEAA which i believe is at the state level (i graduated in PA) but for years I remember some federal agency that was calling me consistently regarding this...it took them quite a few # of years but they did eventually catch up to me...

The worst part is all im paying back right now is the interest and continuing interest..dont think ive even hit the principle yet...

I think I've heard of that before... I graduated in Pa too.

After taxes this year, I've doubled up on a lot of my payments... The interest is a killer, you've got to really pay up to get ahead of it. I felt like those goofy auto calculated payments they had come up with were enough to never get ahead of the debt. I think by next year I'll have the majority of it wiped away... Then invest in something else to give myself debt lol, like a house.

So my gf just cancelled her insurance with work cause they were charging her way to much. Now if she gets insurance outside like blue Cross or shield she won't have to.pay a penalty right?
I'm confused on the whole thing for her right now. I'm confused as well cause every time I google something the I do contradicts itself.
Can anyone give me a definitive answer? Any info will including where to find the info. Thanks.

Trump signed a executive order relief from burden of the penalty for not having insurance. The IRS no longer enforces the penalty for not having coverage at all. Obamacare for the most part has been overturned by Trump solely through the reconciliation process since congress can’t get anything done.

Well I got penalized this year and wasn't much but my gf is afraid of being penalized in 2019 when she files her taxes. Will she?

I have had coverage through my job forever but didn’t even turn in my documentation for the proof of insurance and didn’t receive a fine living in Colorado on my state or Federal taxes.. do you do your taxes or does HR block or do you use an accountant? All she has to do is put yes on the form stating she’s had insurance and they won’t ask for the proof anymore.

Self incrimination.. lol

I use a private accountant but just told him I had insurance and threw away my forms when they showed for my proof of ins.. Ya just tell her to use turbo tax and when it asks just put yes and if it asks you to attach your form at the end just leave it off and they will not fine you.

I second lying about it. I have never given any proof of insurance. I use TurboTax and just say I have had insurance all year, which I am fortunate enough to actually have, but I can't imagine why the IRS would sweat it when the law regulating it has no future.

My accountant said that it's gone now. It was part of the tax filing this year (2017) but no more for next 1040.
Its the penalty that was mandated(Obamacare)for not carrying health insurance. It is gone starting tax year 2019. I looked it up this morning. Its not gone, it hasnt even been enacted yet.

Can be private insurance. Longest you have proof of health insurance. Doesn’t matter. I would do the same.
