Pituitary MRI

Scheduled one for next Tuesday. What can I expect? I don't even know where my pituitary is, let alone what an MRI is.

The pituitary is located at the base of your brain, and is often called the "master controller" of the endocrine system. Beyond that I don't know.

I'm curious to know how long you had to wait for the MRI; I'm scheduled to have one in 5 months. Living in BC, Canada.

I made the appointment last week.

I just had an MRI about 2 months ago.....
I had the Closed MRI........ It is very tight in there.......you can't move....
It lasts for about 8-10 min.
there is no pain or anything like that........

They have an Open MRI.......but i've never seen it

they are checking to see it you have a tumor on your pituitary.......
mine was negative..........

A tumor on the pituitary limits testosterone production.........and reducing the tumor increases test production.......If the tumor is no cancerous they give you meds to shrink it.......

Hope this helps.....

People with pituitary tumors are generally put on some kind of drug that inhibits prolactin. One such drug (Dostinex aka cabergoline) is used for this purpose, but not in the US. It has the side effect of making you very horny. People often use it as a recreational drug for this reason.

Smart move though, Krom. I'm glad that they are working with you and allowing you to do this.

So far, I've been steering my own ship. I was the one to get the Clomid (SERM) test done to determine secondary hypogonadism. I was the one to suggest the pituitary MRI. I'm beginning to wonder when all these doctors are going to start treating me. I'm tired of driving.

I do not think a pituitary MRI is warranted in your case, unless I have missed something. You do not report elevated PRL. You do not have a total Testosterone lower than 150. Your gonadotrophins are not bottomed out. You are not experiencing visual changes, or severe headaches.

If you are anxious about confined spaces, ask for a little Xanax beforehand. But there is nothing uncomfortable about an MRI.

I'm glad we don't have socialized medicine (yet) in the US. It might seem "free", but believe me, you pay for it one way or the other.

Just got it done, and that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Confined spaces suck. They wouldn't give me a Xanax :( ....So I sat in there and quivered like a little girl.

Hope you get over that soon! Gonna be kinda hard to be a FF otherwise. Wearing a Scott SCBA and going into a small accessway while fire surrounds you? It's tough I'm sure.

I've got a 10 ft. long pipe that's 2 ft. in diameter.. I put on my M40 (military issue) gas mask and get in there. I practice dragging friends through it. I'm working on the claustraphobia. It's cured by practice, that's all.

Glad to hear it!! I know too many folks who somehow make it through EOD school only to freak out the instance they put on a bomb suit. Some get over it....others never do.

I've seen it too.

I'm not saying I love being in little tunnels... lol... my personal hell would be a 300 ft. tunnel (1.5 ft in diameter) with my son hurt on the other side. <-That's what keeps me Christian. :)
